Danny's Cycle...

Get those nitrites down  :p
They will come down in time don't worry, then you will be able to have some beautiful fry swimming around :p :D :fish:

You're going to have a very fine balancing act to follow. Too much waste and your fish will suffer, too little waste and your bacteria won't grow fast enough. If you can find someone with a mature tank able to hold your fish for you until your own tank is ready, do so now before any births.

Right I have just completely changed my gravel...

Don't know if this will work but my water looks crystal already!

Just got the two little beauts in a bag re-introducing them at the moment :)

Will test the water in about two hours, cause fish will take about an hour to introduce :)

feel for you mate, mine are still spiking overnight at anywhere between 1-5, driving me nuts. I waterchange 80%, get down to 0.25 or less then 4 -6 hours later back to 1................doing between 3-5 changes a day, overnight Im using Prime to protect the fish till morning water change, mines on day 5 of nitrite spike. It is not easy, keep going mate one of us will turn the corner soon and spur the other one on lol

Well my tank looks clearer already... However I'm not sure if that's a good or bad thing lol...
My tank wasn't fully cycled, and I just felt like I wanted to get rid of the gravel in the tank in case it just wasn't good...
Seems to have brought my Nitrite to 0ppm though... :S hopefully they will stay at 0ppm haha!

Water changed before just didn't seem to be doing anything... maybe 50% changes just were not good enough to produce any effect to the water conditions.
I'm testing every half hour now just done another and its still at 0ppm :)

Haven't fed the fish yet, not sure If I will tonight...

I wish you luck also :)

This isnt the case JMK, the bacteria only require trace amounts of ammonia to perform the cycle, amounts so small that it isnt detected by test kits. Doing large water changes and bringing the ammonia levels down to zero as tested by a kit wont have any effect on the cycle, it will just help to maintain the fish's health

Looking good, just keep up with the gravel cleans and water changes now whenever you see a rise in ammonia/nitrite

As you mentioned before, either dont feed tonight or I'd probably suggest giving them just a tiny amount of food, it may help them settle a little after the upheaval they have had.

I just hope it stays at 0ppm now haha... been a tough experience first time...
I'm sure it's no where near cycled yet though lol!

Yeah I will feed them a very small pinch tonight then... My female looks very uneasy today.
Maybe feeling the whole pregnancy, and moving them around probably didn't help one bit!

How often do you suggest a water change then? 50% every day maybe? or just when I notice any changes?

Andy, I can understand his nitrates aren't going to go lower than tap level but why do you think he can't get nitrite(NO2) below 0.25ppm? Its only an 8g and a couple of small fish in it, there's no reason I can see why it shouldn't be easy to clear that nitrite out of there. I think his water changes are too small. Am I missing something?

~~waterdrop~~

Hey Waterdrop.

Do you think that I am nearly cycled then?

The full water change has surely lowered all my results,
What do I expect now?

I'm sorry for maybe sounding dumb... but we all learn some day right?
