Danno's Nanos And Pico Journal

sigh, i guess its about time I make my mark on this thread. I've been wanting to start my first sw tank for a little while now (who doesnt want one, right?) and so of course, ive been reading all I can about it. I still very much feel that alot of it is 'over my head' so to speak. So my question is....what book were you/are you using to read up on all your information danno? Ive picked up little tid bits from my LFS and most from this site but I still am not sure I feel comfortable spending money on something I dont feel im ready to handle just yet.

and a word for the wise for those that speak 'fish' everyday, try not to abbreviate so many things haha, you can figure alot of them out by seeing them time and again, but it still makes it a little difficult to follow. No flaming intended, trying to speak up for the all the newbies out there

Well so far I used:

Marine Aquarium Guide - Frank de Graaf
You and Your Aquarium - Dick Mills
the aquarium fish handbook - Dick Mills and Derek Lambert

and some other books that I don't remember. I order books through my library system. Some I own.

By the way: BBS = baby brine shrimp

Just completed a huge order!

Ya smell that? It smells like a pico reef is going to start! :D

mmm coral.....

good choice of music for the vid :p that clown fish has got some good dance moves!

I didn't even realize that music was playing in the background. I just normally put my music on shuffle and let it go all day. Oh well.

My corals came two days ago, but I am letting everything settle down before I take pictures because they aren't very exciting at the moment. I opened my bag of mushrooms and found out they shorted me two shrooms. I called them up and they said "We are sorry about that! Let us ship you out another package for free. Shipping will be free too". Uhm... ..............OK!!!! :D

I have been been toying with the idea that maybe if I could angle the sand in my tank that I could possibly, MAYBE, get a jawfish. I want one sooooo bad. I think I could make it work to get 4 inches of sand for burrowing. It would be a lot of work.... One of the problems I can forsee is the sand leveling out and the jawfish getting torked. One of the ideas I had was to stack the live rock on one end to have " \ " angled area for corals and the firefish to hide in. Where the sand would open I could put a piece of acylic pushing against the live rock to make the sand not push back and level. Covereing up the acylic would be easy. Has anyone made sand barriers before?

Here is a sneak peak at the opening corals.

Well I recieved my Picotope from Drs. Foster & Smith along with all of my other goodies a few days ago. The picotope is quite spiffy. I thought about making another thread for my pico but I thought that would be a tad too much.....so I merged my pico jounal with my nano jounal. Here it is!

Tank:
3 Gallons
25 watt theo heater
9 watts 50/50 lighting (3 watts per gallon)
Pico filter (40gph)

No leaks: CHECK!

Hopefully going to get into the fish store soon to pick up live sand and live rock.
I might add a Azoo palm filter to the pico if the water movement isn't working out. I might just do that anyways since I need more room for media.

I'm looking into getting a RO unit finally. I'll see what happens.
