I'm in the process of starting a 6foot tank and will need a lid with decent lighting so will be sending you an email in the not too distant future

Kev you usually get it if there is a film on the water.

Ah, that would explain it! The new rocks put quite a bit of dust out (even though they were scrubbed for years), hopefully once that clears it will improve.

Very interested in this style mate. I have seen KevM's unit that you made him and was very impressed.
Im setting up a marine tank so would need high light in order to keep softies, LPS and SPS corals and would like some blue in there for the overall look.

The tank it's self is a braceless 22" cube. If you need so,e pics or other info please let me know.

What price would I be looking at?

Thanks.

Does anyone know what type and where Stevo gets the bulbs for the light units.  The reason i ask is that three of the four bars that i got have gone u/s.  I believe they are cree.  I did return one bar to Steve but it broke down on return a day later.  He did offer to send me a few bulbs and an "idiots" guide for finding problem and fixing, but they have not been forthcoming, and he has not answered my last two PM.  I know people knock pensioners, but to me the outlay was an attempt to cut the leccy bill-it has not worked out like that, so pretty disappointed.

Hope you sort these out Shamus. I think Steve usees the Cree XM-L.

Thanks for that, guess i will have to try and source some, trouble is i have no idea how to check to find where the problem is on the three bars that are u/s.   Still no communication from Steve, - still he has had his money i suppose.

That doesn't sound good! he reassured me that his units have a life span of up to 10 years because there not used with w dimmer (which according to him reduces the life of them)

How old are you light units?  I know the bulbs he used for mine are 6,500k 3W cree leds probably imported from china or somewhere like that.

The fact he isn't trying to help and isn't replying worries me! No good considering he is (or was) a moderator on this forum.

Steve used to spend hours upon hours on this site. Suddenly, he retires as a Moderator, and doesn't spend anything like the amount of time on here that he used to. That would indicate a large change of circumstances, not a deliberate ploy to ignore you.

Thanks for that Justin, still no contact.  Four bars were purchased in Mar/Apr this year.

I am aware that he moved home etc and had some marital probs (i believe}.  However he still appears to be logging on more or less daily, guess i am old fashioned i try to deal with people with common decency and try to help them out, didnt expect a guarantee but a bit of help would not have hurt.

If anybody does find out what he uses then please post up. I've had 3 LED failures out of six lights.

How old was your light unit ?

I don't know, I've had it eight months but it wasn't new when I got it. (I think Steve said it was one of the earlier ones he build). I think it might be heat related and was going to install a fan if I could get spare LED's.
