Cory Id Please

Hi Coryologist :)

Thanks for stopping by and helping out here. :thanks:

For those members who haven't become acquainted with Coryologist, he's recognized in cory circles as one of the leading experts. If he takes the time to comment, you can be pretty sure he knows what he's talking about. :D

Although extremely variable C. schwartzi do not possess a white leading dorsal ray. It is black and extends almost to the top. Admittedly, my CW028 call was way off the mark. lol. Try asking your lfs where it was shipped out of, although that says nothing about the collection point. Could easily be a C. pulcher variant. There are lots of them, most undescibed in the literature. There are only 2 people in the world that if they put a name or a number on that fish, that I would accept it as gospel and they don't visit here. - F.

yes i did think poss c.pulcher variant as well.

its always hard to defo have an id, especially if u dont have it in front of u

C pulcher looks like a close match to me. the uneven line above the center looks a better match than the rigid straight line of the C028. I am no cory expert at all but am starting to learn how to match color patterns somewhat.

Hi Inchworm. You are always so nice to me, but calling me an expert is truly over stating the case. I consider myself an advanced hobbyist (50 years should count for something) who has been fortunate enough to foster good relationships with the "true" experts in the hobby, who generously share their vast knowledge with me, which I am happy to pass along to others. I make a lot of mistakes and have no problem admitting that.

Still, the thought that you think so highly of the knowledge I do possess, means a great deal to me. Truly. - Frank

come on , ur well known on this forum as the expert when it comes to corys. u are the coryologist!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :good:

So,for the sake of my sig below, should i go with c.pulcher or c.schwartzi? Might even start a poll on this !!!

personally I think probably schwartzi... short snout, black band through eye extending towards dorsal, light met body with broken/staggered/stepped black lines, bands in tail....

coryologisty... I am looking at a pic from hans-georg showing a pair of cf schwartzi with white/non black leading dorsal spines..... (see fuller/evers book P229)

as said, there are so many new species & variants coming to the hobby it is very hard to seperate them even knowing what river systems they came from.

i'm not prepared to discount anything at the minute. Most people i've asked so far have said Schwartzi ,but i'll never be 100% sure

edited to remove link.(think it may have broken rules so removed just in case)
