Coronavirus...post your thoughts here...

Is there any way to stop coughing? When I went to air con places like shopping mall I always cough and people look at me like im having coronaviruses even though I am wearing a mask.
Sometimes the air in shopping centres can be very dry and that can cause you to cough. There can also be perfumes or chemicals in the air at the shopping centre and that is irritating your lungs.

I have trouble breathing at the major shopping centre here but can go to the other shopping centres and not have a problem.

If people think you have the virus and move away when you cough, be grateful because you will be less likely to have someone breath on you and give you the virus. Ahh he's sick, avoid him :)

People around here are crossing the road now when they see people. I have done it too. I walked on the other side of the road to a person that was walking their dog.

I stopped coughing two weeks ago. I only had a runny nose last week. I am today feeling fine! The NHS said if he gets better with the antibiotics then we don't all need to self isolate. The thing is though there are two 90 yos in the house and I would have expected them to have caught the virus if it was virus. I just dont think its a virus and if it was, I would be over it by now wouldn't I?
A runny nose and cough is normally caused by a virus. Bacterial infections don't normally cause a runny nose for a week. You probably had a cold virus, which is different from a flu virus, and they are slightly different to the corona virus.

well besides a cough with yellow/green mucous Dad doesn't appear to have any other symptoms of bacterial pneumonia.
The yellow green gunk he is coughing up from his lungs is called sputum (pronounced spew tum). The doctors should have taken a sample of that and sent it off for testing to identify what is causing the problem. However, since your dad is improving after being put on Amoxicillin, that would suggest it is bacterial pneumonia.

Amoxicillin is an anti-biotic and only kills some types of bacteria. It does not affect viruses or fungal infections.

If you had a virus (not necessarily covid19), it should be over by now. If nobody else in the house has had a cough or runny nose during the last week, you should be fine to go outside.

However, as I mentioned in post #595, if your dad is at home and you lot go outside and catch something, you could transmit it to your dad and any cold or flu virus could kill him in his current weakened state.

So yes you are probably fine to go out, but don't bring anything back to the house that could infect your dad or the grand parents.

Here is some tips from the World Health Organization:

Follow these tips from the World Health Organization to keep yourself safe and help contain the spread of the virus.

1. Wash your hands with soap and water for 20 seconds.
2. Avoid touching your face, eyes, mouth, and nose.
3. Avoid contact with people who are vulnerable. And if you can’t, wear a mask.
4. Cover your cough with the bend of your elbow.
5. Disinfect surfaces you regularly use.
6. If you feel unwell, stay at home and call your healthcare provider.
7. Only share information from trusted sources.

The WHO is recommending practicing social distancing to slow the spread of the virus. So while most of us are staying home to help combat the spread of the coronavirus, what are you doing to fill the time?

i just finished assembling a 3D wood puzzle consisting of 150 laser cut plywood pieces. It has the look of an antique French clock.

So what have YOU been doing with your extra free time due to the coronavirus?

I was finally able to take a picture of my very skidish Albino BNP! (Granted very blurry, lol)

Usually, when I walk into the room, he (I’m assuming it’s a he?) immediately swims away and hides. I’m glad he is getting less skidish. In picture #2 you can see him in his new favorite hiding spot. :)

Ive also been outside a lot, running, exercising, enjoying nature.

Well, it’s official!

We were just ordered a couple of minutes ago not to go out to any meetings, in groups of 10 or more. That essentially means no going out. Good thing I went shopping before this was issued. :(
Even a Kentucky came out of the woods on this one. Welcome to the rest of our world. 4 walls!

Lol, it definitely didn’t stop people from meeting! My neighbors had this huge party last night, I promise you at least 1 person got sick there. We drove past them and saw at least 15 cars in their driveway. :/

With telephones, skype, google hangouts, instagram, twitter, TFF, and facebook, even if you are living alone, these methods of communication can prevent a feeling of isolation. Also, I can always talk to the person on the other side of my floor to ceiling mirror.

I live in the middle of no where and don’t have many friends, so staying away from people isn’t hard for me, lol.

Look at this, its disgusting and they are in the city that I live in
