Coronavirus...post your thoughts here...

When it comes to food going bad, you know what they say:”the nose knows”
and “if in doubt, throw it out”
Look online at food bank dates. It shows how long things are actually good for past best by and expiration dates:)

Same. My family got a ton of free snacks and sodas from my dads old boss, just because his wife didn’t want to eat anything over the expiration. Even if it was the day of, lol.

The day of? Seriously? Nobody can predict it that on point bro.... okay I know that this bread will go moldy on march 31st at precisely 5:47 pm:rofl:

I keep bread in the fridge. I freeze extra bread. I never had if get moldy in the fridge.
Not if its refrigerated... of in the pantry yea

The BIG QUESTION is how long will major restrictions stay in place. And let's say infection rate in your country starts dropping quickly such as China says is now happening there. When they advise larger gatherings such as sports and schools (not all have closed as yet but many have) can reopen, will the rate of spread increase yet again. What a quandary.

If the grocery stores run out of some of the foods you want, you could always stock up on hamburgers, fish sandwiches and fries from your local McDonalds if you have them in Australia.
We have MacDonalds, Kentucky Fried Chicken (KFC) and Hungry Jacks (Burger King) in Australia.

I can't eat fast food due to the wheat, gluten and preservatives in it.
I became intolerant and allergic to numerous foods after being put on anti-biotics for a month. They didn't fix the problem and simply made me unable to eat most prepared foods.

Do you live in the middle of nowhere??
Yes and no, about 100km south of the capital city but 15km south of a country city. Total population about 40,000 people, about half are over 50 years old and at high risk of dying if the corona virus sets up shop here. The medical facilities aren't that good here :(

And the place is crawling with inbred hill billy 4wd owners that think it's fine to park oversized 4wds and caravans on footpaths so pedestrians have to walk on major roads to get past them. It's the younger population (20-40 yo) that are the inbred hill billies. The older people and kids/ teenagers here are all nice and polite.

I essentially do, lol. I live on 25 acres of wooded property, and it takes me 15 minutes to drive to town on a gravel road.
It takes me about 20 minutes to get to town on a sealed road. Way too many traffic lights to deal with :(

For anyone wanting to freeze dairy products, it's fine and will last for years if kept frozen.

If you have an auto defrost fridge/ freezer, that can cause food to spoil after a few weeks. The best freezer for long term storage is a chest freezer that does not have an auto defrost cycle.

Yes, the uncertainty is difficult. UK hasn't closed schools yet but they say it will need to be for 16 weeks+ to be effective! I don't have childcare concerns but for someone who does, that's a big worry.

Looking at the dates on the previous posts ~ and the virus has spread a whole lot since then ~ my only comment is, How does anyone survive a situation like this without fish to watch??? I've sat watching fish for (literally) 50 years ~ ever since I was a child ~ and it never gets old. Now that I am unexpectedly in the gourami business, every new day is exciting as I check to see how many have made it, how much they've grown, etc. It's been amazing to watch the first hatch (the handful that survived) turn into little mini 3-spot gouramis glistening blue. The 2nd & 3rd batches are doing great... and Dad is now in bachelor quarters.

@dascrow just fixed the problem. ;)

Update. My dad has gotten much worse. My mom and three of my 4 brothers are showing the same symptoms. He is currently at urgent care and being tested for Covid-19. Will have results in a few days

Sorry to hear that. I pray he doesn't have CV. Should he have it, (we pray he does not) at least for now there still may be hospital beds available. Should this cv keeps spreading, that may not be the case in the future. How old is your dad?

42, with no health issues. He is pretty badly ill, we weren't sure he should have driven himself, but the urgent care that was separated for covid symptoms said you had to come alone if you were over 18.
