Cories + Algae Wafers =

Hmm, maybe cories only like hikari algae wafers(they must have something in them). I'll try to feed mine different branded algae wafers and see if they'll eat them.

My cories didn't seem to like the algae wafers(wardley) I gave them. They just glide right over them. Algae wafers don't seem to be a universal food for corydoras.

Yes, algae wafers have a lot more then just algae in them. They have other nutrients the cories like and need.

Barracuda; I have a dwarf aeneus 2 albino aeneus and a splendens. The only ones that even nibble the wafer bits are the splendens and the dwarf. They do love their bloodworms though. They're right little piggies over them.

Algae wafers are aimed at vegetarian fishes, Corys are not vegetarian they are as has already been said omnivorous and although they do consume some vegetable matter they cannot survive on a pure vegetable diet. I would suggest using a staple diet of Tetra tabimin, Aquarian Catfish tablets or a quality general flake food. Whenever possible live foods should be offered, blood worm, tubifex and daphnia are all good live foods.

my pygmy corys love broken algae wafers aswell as flakes,bloodworms and shrimp pellets,infact they are greedy buggers and eat almost anything that hits the floor,i use Hikari algae wafers and a mixture of flakes.i have 3.

I use King British algae wafers and there is an absolute feeding frenzy at night when I put them in. My peppered catfish love them, as do my Bristlenose plecs. My Pearl Gouramis and emperor tetras also get in on the action when they can. In fact I think my gouramis absolutely love them. The only fish I have that don't eat them are the Black Widows.

What about live black worms? I always here about people feeding them.

Someone tell me what an algae tab has in it that a good omnivorus tab or flake doesn't? I haven't checked, but a good tab for bottom feeders has a balanced diet and the additives that an omnivorus fish needs. So what is in the algae tab that is different? Of course I could look, but I didn't make the claim.

Given a choice between live black worms and an algae tab, what do you think my Cories swarm and what do they ignore?

My Hikari Algae Wafers say they are for Plecs [a vegitarian fish] and algae eaters. The Hikari Sinking Wafers are for omnivorus bottom feeders, i.e. Cories, loaches, etc. There is some difference in the ingredients and content, most notably in the fiber and phosporus content.

My Cories eat algae wafers when I give them nothing else. But if I put Sinking Wafers and Algae Wafers in the Cories will chose the Sinking Wafers. If I put live insects in they will definately chose them.

See thats the thing. I can give my cories the Hikari algae wafers and some other sinking wafers (Hikari sinking wafers you are talking about, Tetramin tropical tablets) and they seem to go after the algae wafers first. The only thing I have seen them go for first is the earthworm sticks I got from Ken's Fish. They go crazy of those things

Maybe my cories are just different. Although all my bottom dwelling fish like them

I feed them with Hikari sinking wafers, algae wafer, micro pellets, sinking carnivore pellets, TetraMin variety wafers, Aquarian Bottom Feeder[ shrimp Pellets], also frozen blood worm and if they lucky may get live black worm. Thoese food I feed them different one each day what ever avaliable or handy. I know they love the algae wafer, but take them much longer to finish. The cories crazy with Sinking carnivore pellets. Over all feeding them with various of food.

I think you are right about that too. My cories get something different everyday. They go crazy over Spirulla (sp?) Disks too.

I just wanted to point out that Cories can be healthy and get a good diet without getting Algae wafers. I like to have lots of stuff around for them. But to be honest, I have a good connection for fresh black worms, so my Cories get lots of black worms as their main staple. When I put any prepared fish food in, they keep rooting around for awhile for the worms, but they will get around to the wafers after a bit.

Well when you are spoil your cories with black worms they wouldn't pay much attention on prepared fish food but at the end after all the worms gone they turn to the wafers food.

If they can say " why not" worms are much better flavor than dried food and easy meal

I was feeding black worms twice a day. I told Inchworm. She laughed heartily at me and said, "Well, I'm sure your Cories must love you lots, but really a wafer at night will do well."

My problem is that the worms are so much cleaner than the processed food, and my filters don't need changing and cleaning as much with them.

Call me very lazy!
