Connor's Seahorse Journal

Good news!!!! Im getting the new tank this saturday. So, ill be filling it with some water from their current tank and then add the live sand...wait a day or two for it to clear after being circulated with a few powerheads, then fill it up with fresh SW and ill add the LR :)
Ill be posting pics etc and how its all going. Hopefully it shouldnt take too long to cycle as im taking the LR home in buckets of SW, so there shouldnt be as much die-off

Well my Dad bought the tank, skimmer, sand, salt etc today and when we picked it up, the tank and stand were placed on a soaking wet carpet....rather silly of the LFS. So, we got it home, opened up the tank and it was fine but we got the wood etc for the tank and they were soaking...so im having another one ordered for Friday :(
Will update in due course....the tank however is a great sized tank :D Cant wait!

the tank has been setup for around 2 months and everything is going well! I'll be adding pictures soon!

Great tank, love the SH's. :good:

I'm currently setting up my own SH tank so may be calling on your experience in the future. I'm thinking of getting H.barbouri or H.comes (a pair of), and trying to raise the fry. Have you had any success? what method are you using? - i found a webstie of a guy who has been raising SH fry for years and has 3 methods to try, so i was wondering what you have tried and with what success.

Again Tank and SH's look great - hope mine looks as good. :D

Yeah sure, if you do have any questions feel free to ask! Unfortunately I havent had alot of success with raising fry, and if they do give birth i try my hardest to give the fry away to people who have the time to raise them.

An update; sadly my little orange juvenille passed away this morning. Yesterday i noticed that she wasnt eating and her tail looked as though it had a bacterial infection; so, trying to stop the adults from getting it, i removed her and placed her in a quarantine tank. Sadly, i wasnt able to try and get any medication as LFS's around me dont stock anything that can be used with seahorses, like antibiotics etc; so all i could do was try and keep her water clean etc. Sadly, she died.
It was totally unexpected..she was feeding fine the day before and has been as active as ever recently. The water qualtiy is perfect, its highly oxygenated and she was gettign ample amounts of food. I think the bacterial infection may have come on from her dragging her tail across rocks etc??
The adults are fine, eating, swimming about and looking healthy :good:
I loved that little seahorse soo much!

Aww thank you for the kind comments.
In fact, the other two have never been better! They are swimming round a lot more and the female's taken over the little one's old territory at the top of the tank....it was as if the bigger ones were intimidated by the little one as they wouldnt ever go near its 'caulerpa bed'.
I will get some pictures up asap of the tank, the Seahorse's and the Firefish...if i can :shifty:
