Chris' Nano Journal

That soumds like a nasty flood, it always happens late at night too.Gladd you are sorted now, look forward to more piccies.

wernt much water but took forever to dry. i remember when i lost 20+ gallons out of my cichlid tank. Had to drain it right down move it lift the carpet and clean the floor properly.

when i next update there will be a few pictures as i will be drilling the tank. you will either be getting a picture with a hole in the bottom or a big crack along the bottom.

At least it was seawater so you should NOT have problems with mould :)

Got any pics for the anti siphon holes? I might have a suggestion for you ;)

Yea i will get some pictures.

it was fresh water in the tank as i knew i would be draining it again.

i also emailed nd auqatics and they said they will drill the extra hole for £10. So i will be taking it back for the ectra hole. Not worth me buying the drill bit + the risk of breaking.

why do these things always happen late at night...............is it because we are too impatient to wait till the morning

I'm not sure if it will work with your plumbing the way it is, but you COULD consider using check valves instead of those long ungainly tubes. Many medical science outlets carry very small check valves which if installed vertically with the check pointing down would stay closed when power is on, flow is moving and therefore pressure is high; and open up right away when pressure comes off...

Were you on my side of the pond, I'd direct you to some good dealers for small checkvalves, but can't help you over in the UK

if you could give me the links as i have family over your side and am also going to be visiting on holiday/vacation in 3 weeks time.

The valves seem like a good idea and i understand ho they work. When the pumps are off the air is pulled down the air tubes into the main pipework. Can't see how it wouldn't work.

thanks

Got the tank maker to drill the other hole today :D. Took them about 5 mins. I bought the pipework from the same company so i will get on with it after the silicone has started to dry on the bulkhead.

my d&d refractometer is on order so hopefully will be adding salter water next weekend.

Where does everyone get the ro water cans from? almost forgot about getting the RO water lol

A camping store, but YF came up with a great way of saving money, apparently dentists have their 'special' water shipped in 25 litres, so you could ask there :good: YF got his very cheap

I got mine from a camping store cost 3 times what YF paid but still half the price of Argos (I paid £8 each) went for 3 2 x saltwater 1 x ro water.

cheers. im at the dentist on tuesday anyway so will ask then.

Ive also done the plumbing on the 2nd pipe to the sump. Just need to glue it to the bulkhead but want to leave the bulkhead to set before i start pushing/gluing it.

Tanks been refilled again to make sure there no leaks as we had to disturb the rear pipework abit when it was getting drilled. No leaks yet ( i have put tails around just in case lol)

Tomorrow im going to get some pipe from the koi shop so im using proper pipe rather than the waste pipe im testing it on.

I have the tank full now and its running almost silent (not going to bother getting it perfect as im bound to disturb the setting when im gluing the new pipe together.) But it seems tro be handling the flow really well (both eheim compact 2000+ and the Eheim 1260 on full)

So hopefully im still goin to be getting salty water next weekend (23rd)

Probably not going to have LR in untill after i get back though :( . unless some comes up soon.

edit
Refractometer came today. Ordered i Wednesday night and mum brought it home from work today

Went and got the pipe today to finish of the pipework (i hope)

Left the tank to run yesturday.

2 things make a noise

1)
The water falling from the bubble trap in the sump into the retun secton. But once i have salt in the water i imagin it will quite down abit down to the weight of the water. If not i will have to lower the bubble trap abit which wont be too much problem.

2)
The eheim 1260. The noise it makes it unbelievable. Really does hum. Might even sell it and get the next size up eheim compact (3000lph in stead of the 2150lph this pump does)

Also orderd a ATC800 the other day so hopefully that will be hear around monday/tuesday.

I tested the tank if there was a powercut. this is where the water stopped lol (i was ready to plug the pumps back in incase it did go over).

I also took some water out and lowerd the water in my sump to the max marker

Was just working out my flow rate.

The compact is rated at 2000 lph but will probably be around 1300 lph after around 1m head?
the 1262 is rated at about 2280 lph but will probably be 1600lph at 1m head?

Which is about 2900 lph.

Tank is around 86 litres.

Flow = just under 34x
