my dad is starting to get into the fish now that i am and in the spring we will be moving my dad wants to build a fish tank in the wall a big one maybe 5ft high 3ft wide and 8-10ft long i think dont quote me on this and i dont know what he wants to put in it but what would be the best material to build it out of and where might we get the materials and when planning this we no were gonna need a big filter so we suggested a pool filter fixed a bit to pump less or more what do u suggest?

at this point its just talk i would love for the plan to follow through but we no nothing of what would be the best dimensions or other important tips any help?

If you go to 5' deep, then you are going to need extreemly thick glass. I would bring it down to 3' so you could use 19m glass. 10x3x3 would look stunning. You could either build it out or breeze block and cement with a glass front or you could go for an all glass tank which would be build on site job.

heres a couple of pics of the being built into walls. (these are marine tanks but a tropical would be built using the same principal and lok just as god)

i realy appreciate the help maybe i will use some of the suggestions

Few fish really need that hight.. cleaning it would be a pain... The tanks amount of fish capacity is largly dependent on footprint not total volume...
so ya unless your fish need it low and wide :)
