Breeding My Discus

Please come to belgium?
there's an empty store here which used to be an aquarium shop!
It's been for sale for three years now!

also: what's the weather like now at your place?
Big thunderstorms coming? maybe it's the air pressure or something that get's them randy.
There's a theory that Cory's start to spawn with sudden low air preassures (after the dry season, rain will come in thunderstorms)

:) Belgium would be cool.

Yeah, I think you are right, as it is wet season now and we get big thunderstorms almost every evening. So the air pressure must really drop hard late in the day.

It's not too late to have jacks....a pair fits nicely in a 55g :p

Please, will you stop tempting me

Just collected a bowl full of Sterbai Cory eggs off the glass, and I have no idea why I want to be raising cory fry, but I just couldn't help it

I'm down to 20 fry left of my first successful spawn :( sad to see them go. I have 20 that need homes :p

What about the latest batch? Are you growing them now?

yep, all 400 of them :-(

Already have a plan....... If I am so lucky!

Am moving house in December and the town I am going to has no fish store. So I promised my girlfriend that she could open one. She is really into fish now. So should I ever be so lucky she can stock them.

And I promise to give you a blog on opening our own store :)

If the situation is like in Vietnam and China then you could make a nice living by selling complete aquarium set-ups. With this I mean, making a nicely scaped tank, complete with ornaments, plants and fishes. Personally I would also find it very rewarding.

+1  Any beginner, or anyone without the patience to learn to scape on their own would pay for that, plus the knowledge you would offer with it. I would have paid a buttload of money when I first started to have someone plant my tank for me, because I knew nothing about it and where to start. Plus a cycled filter means no deaths, happy customers and more business! woot. I wanna come work for you. lmao.

Thanks guys, they are kind and encouraging words. My plan was something small for my girlfriend, as she will need to give up her current job when we move, and she has really taken to fish keeping. However, I do want it to work, so doing tank builds and would be a great add on. The real money maker here is Arowana. They are a huge status symbol for Asians, and sell for unbelievable sums of money. Working out how to breed them would be a goldmine ........ But baby steps, and let's see.

So, Thai are like the Vietnamese then :fun:. Arowanas are considered dragon fish and as such have a huge attraction. I saw dedicated arowana shops in Vietnam with many different varieties.

That's right. They are said to bring health and wealth, and very common in restaurants(not on a plate obviously)

. Super Reds, Golds and Cross Backs demand crazy prices. Most of them sold here are imported from Malaysia. Some of the show quality fish sell for thousands of dollars. I don't think they can be bred in tanks, I believe they are bred in small ponds.

Well we have wrigglers again, all be a relatively small amount. So let's see how they get on. Off on a slight tangent, we have 30 Sterai Cory fry from the eggs I rescued from my main tank the other morning. Those little guys are swimming around like crazy
