Breeding My Discus

Why the hack did they eat them!!! They get premium food every day... I don't get it. I think it is time to ask your discus friends out for a beer or 2....

This. Do they have any advice so far?

Have just started my 2 week break from work, so will be home everyday. 2 weeks of extra care, and trying to get it right.

My friends who own the fish farm breed them so matter of fact! They have been doing it for so many years that it is easy for them. I don't think anything is wrong, as I have covered every base. I just need a little lady luck. I am only working with 2 pairs, while the farm must have 100+ pairs, so their odds are great.......compared to mine :(

I should get them to lay again in the next few days, as this bit is easy. I don't know why they wanted to go on a fry munch, but I guess they weren't happy with something.

They are on a live brine shrimp and blood worm diet just now(which always seems to get them randy), and tomorrow I will make up a new beef heart mix to keep their bellies full.

What a strange day! Where to start?

Must be something going on as all my fish in the house are going nuts, it's like some huge swingers party!

Spawn mania! Even my Sterbai Corys are at it. Both Discus pairs are in spawning mode and looking like they are going to lay again tonight. Also in my main tank I have another pair at it, but the most remarkable and amazing thing is this:

Yesterday I went out to buy some fish food, and ended up looking around at fish. Myself and my Girlfriend spotted some Checkered Pigeon Bloods, almost identical to the ones I gave to the fish farm(the pair at the start of this journal), and we decided to buy 2. Amid a dozen or so they had in the tank I picked 2, and tried to work out which was a male and which was a female(but it is near impossible). We brought the 2 fish home and I put them in one of the tanks. They haven't been here 24 hours and they have paired up and started to clean a spawning site on some bog wood!!!! They are randier than guppies!

I am on top of the water quality and tracking it constantly. Got the breeding tanks at 29C, 6.0pH, 140ppm TDS(after adding minerals and buffer), GH is at 2 degrees. I adjusted that total loss water system so that it is now fed from the stored RO water(with added buffer and minerals), so that the tanks turnover twice a day. So basically I am feeding the water in and letting it go down the drain at 200% every 24 hours. Added to this I am siphoning out the fish plop as needed( 2- 3 times/ day). What more can I do????????????

Here's those new guys, Randy and Lusty! ...........................

Haha, One day you are going to look around and say "What the heck do I do with all this fish fry?" You'll have thousands of them :hyper:

Already have a plan....... If I am so lucky!

Am moving house in December and the town I am going to has no fish store. So I promised my girlfriend that she could open one. She is really into fish now. So should I ever be so lucky she can stock them.

And I promise to give you a blog on opening our own store :)
