Breeding Bettas

ok I'll just move my betta nto the five gallon then after I get my gouramis. Although I don't think there would be much problem.. I've heard of bettas and gouramis being kept together before, and it's a huge tank...

We will see

nah feamles can be quite colorful too ;)

sorry guys, had a big blackout. i gotta check on the fish now i'ts 2:43 am, then i have to head to sleep :X just gotta make sure all the babies are okay.

i'll reply back later on probbaly tmr morning :)

My 46 gallon has been running for about a week, although I only got my betta for it yesterday. Can I get a pair of Dwarf Gouramis to continue cycling, or are gouramis not hardy enough for cycling? If not, should I get a couple of livebearers, like swordtails or platies? I don't want to get guppies I've heard Bettas can mistake their fins for other bettas. (And furthermore I find them boring).

yes I have looked into it and it sounds like a great idea. But too late now, I've already started cycling with my betta. I had a small ammonia spike yesterday but now it's down to 0 and my nitrite is 0.3. Sounds like it's ready for some new fish. What would you suggest if not gouramis? Maybe some swordtails or mollies? Platies?

if you insist on fish cycling, i believe danios would make a good choice. -_- it comes to ap roblem later on ifyou decide that you dont' wnat them anymore, unless ur lfs takes fish back :)

well I got 3 platies to help cycle. They seem happy enough but are often gulping for air at the surface like my betta, but more often so strangely enough. Any suggestions?

I hate danios lol and I don't know if the lfs would take them back, even for free.

well, pearl danios are quite pretty but I really can't stand zebras. They are so commonplace nowadays, that having one bears very little significance whatsoever. :p

the platy may be gasping for oxygen, in which case you need t add some kind of air pump or something becuase it doesnt' look like the water is oxygenated enough. Please do it asap as they can suffocate and die  it also cauases them a lot of stress.

Well I lowered the water level a bit so that the filter aerates a bit better... do you think the platies will be fine until tomorrow when I get an air pump?

Yes, water changes help. They should be fine without an air pump for that amound of time, but try to get one asap. :)

Yeah I'll do that tomorrow as the stores are closed early today (it's the weekend). Please survive, little guys, please... :/
