well we have had a move around in the house with tables and sofas after i cleaned the carpet the other day and resulting i think i can have my own fish tank dedicated room in the centre of the house with a 3 seater sofa looking directly at it, another larger sofa 90degrees to it, (still very viewable) and also visable from the dining room table position. getting more exicited the more i think about it. because being in the hallway people see it but people cant study it and they are always standing and unrelaxed, which is the opposite to the feeling i want ppl to have. :fun:

im buzzing im that excited about it. im finally getting a fish room i dreamed about! and that means on the opposite wall there will be space for a 12 foot upgrade some day! :hey: hopefully id have moved out by then :look:planning on moving out for gd when im 18!

urgh sociology was aweful, i did the wrong essay and still scraped a B tho!
oh and if anyone was interested i got: 2A* 4A 3B and 1C with the A* being in physics and Chemistry (so proud sorry). and well i think thats the reason my dad is building me this hood.

well with out delay here are a few pictures to satisfy the TFF's thirst for them ;) (we all love them more than a thousand words!)

my dads factory :D

image-3.jpg

us designing the tank on CAD then CAM software, loved it (counted as my work experience BTW)

image-1.jpg

it going into the machine as a solid block of urethane.

and thats as much as i saw being done, due to college i couldnt get anymore photos. here you can see the rough cut of the 4 fan mounts and a central grill for excess heat air to escape.

The plan was to have two fans blowing and two sucking to reduce dust settling and to get a positive movement of air!

The lid will not stay that colour it will be sprayed matt black and in the end will look more like a stealth bomber than fish tank hood. i like to think of it as the bugatti veyron of lids :* :fun: :hey:

thanks would appreciate feed back asap to know of your interest. Advice is welcome and wanted.

looks good look better once painted :good:

Nice!

I'm looking for a hood for my 5ft bow fronted tank

Well done on your GCSE results! You have every right to be proud of them!

well barney the one im making happens to be a 5ft bowfront. for my vicenza 260. i was thinking of making a small business out of it but my dad said due to labour costs and resources this lid would be verging £1000 to be made elsewhere. lol i love my pa!

not sure how true that is but the block is £200 alone! now i know why people just hang lights above the tank!

lol, maybe I will just stick to my original idea and make it out of marine ply then :)

Your lid is going to look awesome though!

thanks i think so too will get lots of pictures up of it and me finishing it when i hopefully get it back this weekend.

Ordered the 4 pc fans and now need black paint and to order this military grade reflecting sheet for the built in reflector? should be adequate with 95% heat and light reflection?

i wouldnt get the millitary sheet as fair enough for the light but the heat would be completely unwanted and youd face cooling issues just go for metal reflectors

lol, maybe I will just stick to my original idea and make it out of marine ply then :)

Seconded :S someone nicked the money tree from my garden, that I had nicked from Harry who nicked it from Morri :p so I can't afford it

and congratulations on your results, you and your parents must be very proud

ps i'm loving the photos

yer umm well i designed the hood to internally house the lamps with a curve on it to keep light ont the corals and not come peeing out the tank. so i thought its either military or tin foil.

id go for tinfoil but make individual reflectors from it with something more solid behind it

ha lol the tanks coming along nicely filling it up now whilst spraying the tank lid. lol with the hours i have put in to this tank i might have well have bought a RSM250! but i think i will get alot more experience/ satisfaction this way tho. :p

got a slightly seeping wier but like tiny like maybe a half a litre per 24hours. is this okay?

thanks

bollands xx
