Nothing new going on with me. Not even a little update, or any stories to share at all. The trigger likes to keep me on my toes by constantly rearranging the rock work. Petey scares the crap out of me from time to time because of his sleeping habits. I'm still not used to seeing him curled up and ghostly looking.

I've got a new check valve that should be arriving in the mail today

Once work settles down a little bit I want to work on some noise reduction around my return pump. The overflow is pretty quiet after all, but the Rio HF32 is a bit cranky at times.

I don't expect much more for fish right now, but things do change. I want to wait now for some of the higher end angels/tangs. So things are probably going to be a little slow around BigTuna's place. If I find something that is a little more common that catches my eye I might look into it. My last visit to the LFS I missed out on seeing a Juv. Emperor Angel by an hour or so. I wouldn't have purchased him that day, but I still would have been thrilled to see him.

I'll see what I can do. Today I am prepping for our summer vacation we are leaving on tomorrow. So I will also be training our house sitter on feeding and monitoring requirements! Scary, but hopefully she will be reliable enough to use as a fish sitter in the future as well. So that being said at some point today/tonight I will be doing a major clean/maintenance. If I get the opportunity to snap a few photos I will.

Well I got a text from our house sitter this morning that one of the tangs had died yesterday morning. This has completely shocked me as everything was looking so good before we left for holidays. Everything was stable and the fish all looked healthy. She believes it all was quite sudden and all the other fish look healthy to the best of her ability. I asked her which tang and she sadist looked like dori from finding Nemo. Not to pick favorites but if I had to lose a tang, I wouldnt want it to be the Regal. After sending a picture of both the powder and regal, she thinks the powder was the one that died. :S so here I am a thousand miles away, not sure which fish has died for sure, no idea why, and no way to investigate. I'm having a great time but I've now got nothing but my tank on my mind.

This is always a problem, isn't it? When I'm away, my mom and sister take care of the tanks. They know some things, but not everything. They do their best. They call my corals flowers. LOLOL, so you can imagine they don't really have the same knowledge base that I do. I hope she removed the fish at least. You don't want that polluting the tank.

Sorry, you lost the tang. It stinks to lose fish, doesn't it?

:(

 Nothing worse then having something happen when you are away. Sorry to hear it, hope the rest are fine when you get back.

Ya and I feel bad for the sitter. She's young but I've never seen someone so responsible and dedicated for her age. I really didn't want her to get discouraged because with some experience with my tank I know she will be very reliable for times when I have to be away. She did remove the fish. My biggest fear is that other fish may have the same signs that she isn't picking up on. In hindsight she believes the tang lost color for a day and she doesn't believe that to be case with any of the others. Thats really all I have to work with. Fingers are crossed nothing else goes wrong for the rest of the week. I'll be home before the weekend and I can get to work on it.

It does stink to lose fish. I believed that everything was stable and healthy but I fear that I have more gremlins lurking. What are the chances of a major ich flare up since I've been gone?

They don't have a reason to be stressed so hopefully the chances are none. :good:

What were the chances that I'd have a macro bomb while I was away for a weekend performing? And yet, I had one. Happens. Not a reflection of you as a reefer, just a bad turn of events.

I hope that it all works out for you and everything is ok when you return. If it isn't, you have our support and understanding. :)

Sorry for the loss, I know what's it's like to be far away from the tank and not know what's going on.

I'm leaving my tank in the hands of a moody 11 year old because my parents want to be neighborly, instead of leaving my tank with my friend who also has a tank
Grrr

Oh boy, my prayers, GAB...

I just got a random text that "all fish are doing fine and eating well tonight."

That relieves a bit of stress at least.

I wish you all the best GAB. I hope everyone goes smoothly for you

Oh boy, I hope this doesn't ruin your holidays! I have regular absenced from my freshwater tanks of 2 - 3 months and the first thing I do when I get back is to count my losses . With everything on automatic and a lot of plants, I am normally fine though.
