I have a 16g tank sitting doing nothing, it would probably just put too much stress on my fish?

So I did get some tangs yesterday. I was going to give them a few days in their new home before showing them off, but I ended up getting some interesting footage today. They were spending most of their time hiding in the LR so I threw quite a lot of Mysis in to see if that would get them out and about. I ended up catching a fluke encounter with the Trigger and Puffer.

Since this video was taken the Tangs seem to be more comfortable. The Powder Blue is more out going than the Regal at this point. It's incredible the small little openings in the LR that they find their way through. The Regal went into the LR on the right hand side of the tank and somehow came out near the middle, backwards :D

How big are the tangs?

I wouldn't put them in 16g if I was you - would just stress them more.

QT tanks - bare bottom = easier to keep clean :good:

You could reuse the canister - I would pack it with some LR rubble.

The tangs are a decent size. I thought a 16G QT would do more harm than good in terms of stress. I will look around for a 30+, and hopefully find something around 50. QT'ing an Emperor Angel or some of the larger tangs in a 50ish QT will be fine?

How long is your main tank?

Both emperors and especially tangs need a load of horizontal swimming room

72in I was told by a few different LFS employees that this would be sufficient for the Emperor and some of the larger tangs I want. Would ou agree, ainsy?

That's not too bad - you hear some horror stories of people keeping them in 4 fters.

6ft is the minimum that I would consider

Cansiter filter is ok but you have to clean it very well. New media and everything.

16 gallon depends, dimensions? I'd proabably say Anything under 6 inches would be ok for a month in there

Ya I think I'll just look around for a larger QT. the tank shouldn't cost a lot and I'm sure I can make a stand out of something around here.

Do you guys recommend something other than the canister filter? I just mentioned since it was just collecting dust here.

They are usually your best bet, or another type of external. Internal filters, not so much, and hang on backs are OK as well

I just watched the video for the first time from the photobucket link, and from that resolution it looks like they were going after each other. I don't know if everyone can tell but the collision with the puffer and trigger was accidental as they were both going for the same piece of mysis. On my desktop with a larger resolution I can actually pause the video at the exact point of contact and the Trigger actually gets the worse of the exchange. You wouldn't guess it from Petey's bashful reaction. Just wanted to clear that up in case people were thinking that I've got a real rodeo on my hands within my tank. everyone gets along :D

Understood, fish can be clumsy sometimes. Like two outfielders going for the same ball in baseball... BOOM! collision!

Update time? :) It's been foreverrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr.

Getting new fish this week. Fancy angelfish on the way! They hold nothing to Petey though. I still think he's cute.
