I've seen tons of people putting crushed up LR in there sumps with no problems. Worth a go dude.

I just got my tank set up and cycling.

Whew!!! just read through this whole journal.. okay so skimmed is a better word.  For the Live rock... by all means throw it in your sump even if it is before your skimmer you will still get the benefit of the bacteria dealing with the ammonia but you may end up skimming away potential food for your tank.  I have around 15 LBS in my sump right now moved for the same reason.. open up the tank a little without getting rid of the rock.

Thanks for taking the time read through my amateur's journel.  I was able to select a few rocks to put in the sump last night.  I'm going to put in as much as I can after the skimmer, but still leave a bit of room by my return pump and heater.  Im not sure if you are familiar with the Aqueon Model 4 Sump, but the room is limited.  I may not be able to put as much rock down there as I'd like but it will help.  Would you suggest I put some turbo snails in with the LR in the sump?  Considering that the LR will be after the socks and skimmer if there would be much point?

I wanted to get that perfect shot of the foxfaces to show everyone bit that doesn't simg]em like its going to happen any time soon. I was able to get a picture of one of them hiding in its cave. His colors towards his face shows hes a bit nervous with me checking him out so im doing as little as possible right now until they get more used to me.

The ony concern I have with the Foxfaces right now is maybe a lack of feeding.... Since they are so shy and timid I pretty much exit the room during feeding so that they won't just freeze up. I've seen them get a few pieces of brine and mysis here and there but the quickness of the two tangs gives them a much greater feeding advantage. I'm not exactly in a position to over feed my tank right now. I haven't seen them graze on the algae much at all. They very well could be feeding just fine, it's just difficult for me to really observe much right now. Anyways I'll try to get some more photos of them when they warm up to me a bit more.

Fish will be fine, Can go on for a week or more without food and as you said they are getting some food so they'll be 100%. Better that than overfeeding and killing everything in your tank :p

I wouldn't bother putting any snails in the sump.    As for the sump model, yes i am familiar with it.. i am actually in the process of deciding between the 3 and the 4 for my new set up.  agreed that there is not a lot of room for anything other than the regular equipment.  But while we are on the sump topic.  Are you happy with the sump in general?  my current sump i made myself out of a 29 g tank, but these Aqueons look to be quite useful, so i'm leaning towards them for this next set up.

If you don't want to go with a DIY the Aqueon is awesome, well designed, well built sump, IMO.  I was not a handy DIY kinda guy when I started into the hobby so this was the best sump for me.

Im still struggling to get a decent shot of the foxfaces. Tonight they were more comfortable with me during feding so Itook some with my phone. Unfortunately one of my LEDs quit working so the lighting is weak.

Hes more comfortable now so he's more his normal darker color. His pal is lighter, though.

I though darker colours was from stress and the lighter colours are what you want?

No, the foxfaces will go almost ghost white when scared. They are such. Timid fish mine still do it from yime to time when im nearby
