hi , havent posted for a while, but i have a 66 litre tank of female bettas or so i thought, anyway ive noticed now that about five or six of them are males , the fins on some developing over the last couple of months, i havent any more tanks to put them in , lfs wont take them as they havent fully developed the fins . any ideas pse

Yeh......................PANIC

No seriously, if they are males then at some point they will start scrapping and it only takes a minute to inflict major damage. If the LFS sold them as females then technically they mis-sold you. I know its not always that easy but still they should offer to take them. Other than that is breeding nets or divide the tank up?

use breeder nets and try and sell them on here :good:

You could try listing a few on Ebay or try some more local pet stores. Some Betta traps have about four compartments, Ideally if you can't house them get rid of them as quickly as possible.

Hope you find them good homes.

Although everyone is perfectly correct in their advice, I do wonder if this is what the OP wanted to hear.....lol Maybe he/she didn't want to get rid of their fish? You're in the UK, so I'd suggest that assumming you are allowed to ( cos not everyone can just go out and buy 6 tanks, I wish I could), go to Pets At Home and get a few of those 'My First Aquarium' things they do. Basically they are a 3-ish gallon tank. It's a no frills job, they cost £15 and even come with a small filter, (plus some tacky fishy stickers, those are optional to use....). I have one but I find the filter far too powerful for the tank size, so I use it intermittently until I figure out how to dampen it's output. But all in all, they are quite good little glass tanks that will fit anywhere. A heater can be bought on eBay, I use a small 6 inch 25 watt and there is no problem. Of course the tank(s) will need frequent water changes until you can get something either better or what ever else you decide to do.
Another alternative is a clearseal 4 ft tank and divide it? They are quite cheap and you should get away with dividing it in to 4 without any problems, then either divide the original tank or get a small seperate one for the 6th fish.
I hope this helps, but in case you get stuck, I'm sure I have room for a couple more bettas..... :hey:

you can try using separators in the tank and keep every male with some females to keep them happy because with what I've heard, females don't fight with other females and not with males

I'm disappointed at you Squiremaster  Never purposely keep a male and females together!

Ermmmmm, not to sure about that, males and females don't fight each other

edit:DANG IT! still haven't got the hang of quoting people on here :grr:

Squiremaster - as far as i've seen/read, you can't keep males with females, except for when they breed.

OP - if I was you, i'd try and divide the tank up as others have said - dividers are like £4 from Maidenhead Aquatics.

thanks for all your advice , the fish came from different local shops, it would be hard to tell which came from where , ive thought of tank dividers , but the tank is an awkward shape, being square, and i cant divide it into six, i have however managed to get hold of one little tank, and filter, so off to get a heater tomoro, if anyone wants the others and lives near me wallasey, they can have them

well as ive posted, if you live anywhere near wallasey, you and anyone else are welcome to them , i cudnt afford 6 tanks , and i had large tank but had to sell it due to health reasons but that was before these changed sex haha

its guppy males that can live with females, betta male and females should never live togather in the same space casue they will both , as in ither one beat the crap outa the other in not in the proper mood for spawning , when i first started keeping bettas i did that... had a male in with 5 females, the girls got pissy and beat him to death.... not a good way to keep bettas at all
