Betta With Columnaris

Sorry about the poor quality of the pics. The QT tank is the corner of my room, and gets little to no light. So I had to use a book light to light him up.

And the one time I want him to stay put, he can't stop moving! He seems to enjoy swimming in the current of the filter, but not for very long

Poor thing.
He still looks rough.
Keeping fingers crossed.

Tetracycline which is a gram positive, gram negative med. It will wipe the bacteria out in your filter. But it is a very good antibiotic.

I haven't treated for columnaris and I hope I never will, but I came across this about tetracycline treatment and columnaris which is interesting:

There is much unfortunately posted about the use of Tetracycline for the treatment of Columnaris however this is based on old research and misunderstanding of the large Tetracycline class of medications. Tetracycline is primarily gram positive while Columnaris is a gram negative rod bacteria. This said Minocycline is member of this class of Tetracycline antibiotics and many persons assume all antibiotics in this class are the same, which is not true. Minocycline (sometimes spelled Minocycline) is more gram negative than its cousins and has shown effectiveness for Columnaris. Maracyn 2 is a product that contains Minocycline

Stop telling me to buy all these different meds! I'm getting confused! :S

I'm currently dosing with Mardel Maracyn Plus. I have KanaPlex on the way.
Should I buy the Maracyn-2 or the Furan-2?

Thanks.
Minocycline used for human tb. Can be used for fish tb.

Furan 2 sounds fine to me. It treats both gram positive, and gram negative bacteria.

I read that the KanaPlex can only be used up to 3 days.
Should I treat them both at the same time, or the KanaPlex first, then the Furan-2?

Both at the same time. They are compatible and recommended to be used together for bad cases of columnaris.

Don't use both meds. You will overdose the fish.

As long as the med covering all bases treating gram positive, gram negative bacteria it's fine.

I forgot to ask. What is the Ph of the water with the betta if you have tested it?

*Aquatronics Spectrogram: Kanamycin can be combined with Furan 2 to make an even more wide spectrum treatment, especially for difficult cases of Columnaris or Aeromonas

Kanamycin dosage: 250-500 mg per 20 gallons. Treat every 48 hours (24 hours for severe problems) with a 25% water change before each treatment. Treat for 10 days.

Can't really tell. It's around 7.0-6.8, as far as I can tell. It's lower than the other tanks, because of the almond leaves.
Here's a picture

Thanks. It's fine. I was just wondering.

As for treatment, if it were me and the fish is in this state, considering he's been sick for quite a while, I'd go with aggessive treatment and use both medications otherwise he has no hope. But that's me. Maracyn plus is a strong medication too.

Are you still dosing for the second round with Maracyn plus? Once finished, it's best to do a huge water change and/or carbon if you can to remove medication and maybe give the fish a break for a couple of days till the other medication arrives. You can try stronger concentration of salt baths outside the tank in a bowl, but observe the fish and take him out immediately if you see any sign of distress.

Yeah, I'm still treating him. Today was the 3rd day, gave another 2ml. I guess on Tuesday, I'll dose again. Do a big water change Wednesday, give him a break until the KanaPlex arrives.

If he makes it until then :-(

Sorry for thread skimming so i dont know if your still talking about worms or if this has been mentioned.

I battled these worms for months try every product recomended and none worked. Then i was told about levamosil (spelling) i got a product called levaside and it is a god send. Its a sheep and pig wormer only takes 2 doses and after an hour i saw the worms falling out, the second treatment is to kill the remaining eggs when they hatch. I couldnt recomend this stuff enough
