Betta fin rot

I get that, i was just pointing out that the filter media and hide have helped midagate the problem of the new tank, so basically its not entirely new bacterial wise

Fin rot may be caused by stress so it is good you QT him, you need to keep the water temp around 78 degrees to 80. You can use one of the fin rot meds or use aquarium salt to treat him. If you are going to use salt use about 1tsp per gallon or your can try the salt bath method. Make sure you keep the water clean by doing water changes every couple of days. The clearer the better.

I cannot offer much as I have never had the problem, but one caution I will give is to never combine different treatments/additives. Use the one most effective for the issue and safest for the fish, on its own. Adding a preparation on top of salt could cause serious repercussions for the fish. Not so likely with salt perhaps, but two medications can interact with fish just as they can with humans.

I have kept betta fish for several years now and I have lots of tanks, If that was my fish I would put him in a a quarantine tank, if the tank is cycled, great, if not I add something called Tetra Safe Start which adds the good bacteria. I always do daily 20% water changes in quarantine tanks to remove some of the bad bacteria causing the fin rot. I would also do daily salt baths with API Aquarium Salt.
And about your newly setup quarantine tank, I would get some sachem prime as that will detoxify ammonia and nitrites. Also try adding some Indian almond leaves as the tannins released are good for Betta.
If any other forum users wants to add to my advice please feel free.

I'd do daily 75% water changes to dilute out more potentially harmful microrganisms.

Is there a way to add tannins with coconut fiber, ive heard of this being done before and I already have that.
Also, for water changes with salts, because not all water will be removed so will the salt, should I add less salt after the initial dose, currently using the 1 tbps per gallon methon.

I add the salt to the new clean water before adding it to the tank so it equals out. You can go up to 1 1/2 per gallon.

Yeah, same here, but theres still salt in the tank, all around adding up to more than a tbsp, im guessing thats ok but idk, ive never had a fish this sick before. Its also been years since ive had a sick fish.
