Bensons New Tank

Not too keen on the dwarf angels to be honest but thanks for the suggestion.

Ive covered the top of my tank now so will be picking up a red firefish on satruday :) Cant wait!

Sorry Steffie, i barely come on this site anymore, i should make more effort!

Anyhow, the tank is going ok....slowly progressing. I did get the red firefish in the end but sadly he went awol over xmas and hasnt been seen since. My only fishy fatality in almost a year though....but then again that could be beause i only have/had 7 fish...down to 6 now lol

I have made one major change in my system in that i am now skimmerless. I have a MM sump with chaeto and my params are stable as you like :) If you want to know anything else about this i can tell you more detail but its not very exciting lol.

Current stock is:

2 Clowns
4 Green Chromis
2 Cleaner Shrimp
2 Peppermint Shrimp
1 Tuxedo Urchin (Jeff lol)
1 Black brittle star

Anyway here are some updated pics:

Meet Jeff! I love him:

how many liters is your tank? i love your sea urchin (jeff)

Its 248l minu rock displacement, so i always work off 230l (even though that may be incorrect lol)

Jeff is cool! Never stays still and constantly giving the hermits a lift from one side of the tank to the other haha

looking good mate, nice and bright

Its coming on mate, not stocking it as fast as i would like though. Just cant afford it at the min....next ont the list is a randals shrimp/goby pair and a purple firefish.

But i may be waiting, i have got to make a decision on what to do with my house move. Im planning an upgrade in the next few months so im kinda of thinking that rather than emptying the current tank and moving it to the new house, and then do it all over again when i get my upgrade...i might just move some of the rock and all the stock to the nano i have been using as QT. Dont know what to do though, it makes sense to do that, i just cant bring myself to ditch the big tank haha

Time for an update me thinks....

I finally upgraded to my dream tank!

A 48x24x18 Godiva Exec :hyper: Sorry for the pants photo! I will take more once i have my algae issues under control.

Stock list has grown a little...but its more of an interim stock until i can purchase double the amount of LR and start stocking what i actually want to keep long term.

I now have:

2 Clowns
1 Midas Blenny
1 Regal Tang
1 Humbug Damsel
1 Yellow Tail Damsel
1 Domino Damsel
2 tux urcins
2 brittle stars
2 cleaner shrimp
2 pep shrimp
CUC

the damsels will only be in there for around 6 months, it just seemed so empty! Plan is eventually a yellow tang, 4x royal gramma and a flame angel to go with the clowns, midas and regal. Maybe a shrimp/goby pair too but i dont want to over stock...the tangs will be taking up enough room as it is.

I have also upgraded my lighting, i now have a 6x54w t5 unit ontop of the tank, all the bulbs need replacing, and as i want ATI bulbs i need to wait until i have over £100 to spend on them, then i can start thinking about corals :) :) :)

Still running a skimmerless setup, although this may change once my stocking goes up. I have switched from Mineral Mud to Kent Maring Biosediment as an experiment, which seems to be doing its job nicely. Still running chaeto with an energy saving bulb but now that its in a bigger sump, the growth seems to have slowed so ill be moving towards a grow light in the next few months.

Loads of things i want to do with the tank, but still taking my time getting there!

Im loving it mate, i love the amount of space i have.

Just cant wait to get it to where i want it, but have to be patient. I think ill still be working on it this time next year!

Like the Godiva range, did you buy direct from Coventry aquatics or did you get a bargain second hand?

As im lucky enough to live so close by, i bought direct from Cov Aquatics. But i still got a bargain. It was ex display, so i got the Exec for less than the price of a godiva standard, and its in mint condition.

Ive let things slip with the tank over recent months due to holidays, birthday, xmas pressies to buy etc and unfortunately i have lost one or two of my fish which i can only put down to my neglect of the tank. But I am back on the case now...and wont be losing anything else...

I have LOADS to do! I have a huge algea issue at the moment, im cleaning the glass and back every other day pretty much. I have a good idea what is the root cause, the T5s need replacing for a start, and the sump light is not getting much growth from the chaeto so i need a big lighting replacement. Might invest in a proper phos reactor also as the current DIY jobby doesnt seem to be doing the damage.

But on the plus side, i have my first coral. A little torch frag. I alsoget my Live Rock next week, so will be doing some interesting aquascaping.

Then...once xmas is fully out of the way, i can start to stock the tank how i want it.

I would love to see some photos, I always like the look of the Godiva, went up to Coventry a year or so ago and took a peek in CA, must admit I liked the shop and the owner was a really nice chap :good:

The tank doesnt look any different to my previous pic at the moment, but i have just got back from picking up another 15kg of LR, so the major rescape will be happening tomorrow, So ill be spending the night looking at pictures of tanks trying to get some ideas.

Im just concerned about causing a mini cycle, but i suppose i cant do alot about that, so im in the process of making up as much RO as possible to mix so i can do daily water changes if needed.

Heres some pics of my newest addition while you wait for the pics of the finished scape:

Tank is getting a thorough clean tonight and a water change to keep the new inhabitants happy:

And i need to start concentrating on my torch, its really not happy. Where in the FTS would you guys place it? Baring in mind that the powerhead on the left is a koralia 4 and on the right a koralia 3, both pointing towards thee surface. I have moved the coral around a few times, each time giving it a few days to settle but its getting no better.
