Not sure this is a troll tbh, but i do remember the molly eater. Funniest troll i ever fed.
I didn't call OP a troll, but there were 2 trolls around here though I forgot what the other one was on about. The molly dude wins the internet. X))
Ah yeah, now I remember: the fish food contaminating the human food. A nice thread.

It wasn't a troll, but I've sure been called one a few times in the past for voicing my opinion or rooting for an underdog. Like I said before, I'm from usenet and I miss the occasional troll like we used to have there. There were some really funny people in those wild west days of the internet. What I really miss is the indelible nature of usenet, you can't edit, cancel, undo, or otherwise take anything back. Once you said it, it was too late to do anything but man up and apologize if you didn't mean it. Now the forums (not this one) allow long time or commercial posters to get away with anything by coming along and censoring and covering tracks after a flame fest. The old days were better, people were forever held accountable for their posts. If you made a butt of yourself, you had to live with it. I was allot more careful about choosing words in those days, I've gotten sloppy because you can edit posts. I never remove anything or reverse context, I try to always mark my edits clearly when I make any unless they are just spelling/grammar corrections. Eating mollies huh, I'll have to search that up. Again, I apologize if I offended anyone. It was UNintentional. Believe me, when I set out to offend, I usually make myself real clear. ;)

EDIT: UNintentional it was UNintentional if I offended anyone. I can't believe I wrote the reverse up there.

I've seen some good trolling on some game forum, but now that the good trolls have left, there are only the people who want to be "donkeys" towards others and they just directly insult others, and the non-trolls just ignore them.
Only thing I like about editing posts is that I can add stuff to it in case I forgot something (thus stopping the double posting). Or I could fix some typo that I didn't check in the first place.

Yeah eating mollies LOL. But it seems like the thread got removed, not just locked. :( That thread should have been a memorable one for all the culinary arts it had spawned (Tacos only with mollies and such...)

AHA! http://www.fishforums.net/index.php?/topic/385760-overcrowding/ found it!

That was pretty funny, yeah I miss that stuff from usenet. I can't believe how many seemed to fall for it. I got kinda worried about tomshootsphoto, but the Taco Bell sign was awesome. There used to be a usenet troll called helga the housewife that was just too funny at coming up with stuff like that.

Lol what did she do? X)) (assuming said troll is female)

Man that seems so long ago now, I really can't remember a specific. They were just trolls like the molly thing where they started of being completely believable. "Her" style was more a hit and run thing so there would usually just be one post, but it would be clever. There were allot of different styles employed by trolls, some would be like the molly poster and go on and on with possible but not completely believable stuff keeping the story 100% consistent and in other cases their whole tactic was to continually shift the story around slightly and leave enough vaguery to make that work for them. Who knows why they did it, but some were really clever and funny.

Well, fun is the reason.
I sometimes disguised myself under a fake account on that game forum and acted like a total noob, asking some of the stupidest questions ever. Other times I acted like a total idiot that keeps talking about stuff that seemed too exaggerated (even the writing mistakes seemed exaggerated) but I never directly insulted people. Once or twice I modified what I have quoted from someone who was attacking my troll account for no apparent reason and he got so ticked off that he bawwed to the mods just for that. X)) (said person was criticizing the poor spelling I was using). Even funnier was that I wrote something like:
" <blah blah> him but liek <blah blah>" and the mods understood it as licking... well you get the idea. And I got a warning for it but it was all due to intentional horrible spelling. And it wasn't even what the mod thought... I don't see a double t there.

I have to ask though. How long have you been keeping fish, Afremont?

Only about six months this time around, my little girl wanted a fish and then.....well you know. I used to have fish when I was allot younger, but I've learned more in the short time this time around than I could have ever before. There is so much information available with the internet, of course a bunch of it conflicts too. :/

Back when I was a kid, the man across the street apparently knew something about cycling and so he was the local fish guru when it came to setting up a tank. Outside of some vague memories of cooked fish disasters and a leaking tank, I really didn't think much about my fishkeeping days until my wife came home with a one gallon tank and two glofish. We still have one of them, he is truly a hardy fish. He survived the learning process. Now we have a problem with MTS and bringing home sick strays. I'm a tinker by heart and I love to obsessively learn about oddball subjects so this fit right in.

I just got a microscope so that I can better diagnose my rescues or any other sick fish for that matter. This may seem kind of morbid, but I plan to see if the LFS will let me take some of their mysteriously dead so that I can practice some home fish necropsy. I'm most interested in trying to learn what really kills all the DGs I keep seeing die in the stores.

You say this;

And yet on the previous page of this thread

EDIT: I see that you were being hypothetical about the example tank stock. Sorry if I sounded mean about your bettas, but really they can't be that happy seeing each other all the time. Flaring is a defensive reaction to stress. I hope that you haven't followed other "accepted" betta practice by not having a heater or filter in the tank. Betta fish are not sub-tropical fish and really should be kept at tropical temperatures.

Enough said. Make sure ones own hands are clean, before pointing your fingers.

What? The edit? I didn't remove anything, I only added to it and I clearly marked the edited portion. As for the comment about the betta fish, I said I was highlighting my point by expressing my concern for the betta facetiously and rudely. I thought I had made that clear at time when I followed the remark with the "that wasn't very nice of me, was it?". Again, I wasn't trying to offend anyone, just make a point in a garish way. I thought it was far enough off my normal tone that people would get it, again I'm sorry if I offended anyone.

Let's not harp on previous comments. Apologies were rendered and its all good now. If anyone should have been offended by that, it was me, and I am not offended, so it is best to be dropped before this thread gets locked.

But as you were saying about your entry to fishkeeping, its amazing how children seem to be the gateway, as it was because of my children that I got started as well.

Hello! I'm new on this forum but I've been keeping fish for just under 2 years this time around. However, I am currently starting over with a tropical instead of a goldfish tank. I was a member of another fish forum previously but I left because of the exact thing the OP was talking about. It wasn't even me who was getting "told-off" there but it made me afraid to post in case I became the victim of it like I saw others had!

I have seen a little of people getting aggressive on here but it's not really that bad compared to what I've seen elsewhere.

I would also like to say that I agree with what a couple of you have said in that it must be very frustrating when you have a problem and you start getting quizzed about everything else about your tank instead of just helping you deal with the issue at hand - as odds are in an emergency you are in no position to start changing your tank size, etc.

Depends on the emergency, and as stated, a lot of illnesses can be helped by changes in stock etc. Sometimes what is in your tank can be the answer to why the problem started in the first place. In an emergency, I personally would suggest treating the problem, them taking steps after treatment to make other suggested corrections to ensure that you do not have the problem again. Things like Ich, Velvet, and other issue is generally a stress-related thing, and most stressors are bad water conditions are stocking issues (incompatable stock, to small of a tank)
