Bala Sharks sifting sand

But back to the point, my bala sharks often go down to the bottom of the tank and gulp down some sand and spit it out through their gills.

Is this normal?

Thats how they feed in the wild,plucking bloodworms and other tastey morsels from the mud,keeps the substrate nice and clean so you dont have to hoover as much.
