(i should take a newer picture as it has grown substantially; they get very large)
Yep, they're Sturisomaticthys aureus, or at least that's what TWS said, and surely they wouldn't lie. Really, really cool fish, and fairly durable, too.WHich species is that? It looks similar but different from one i have:
Where are you seeing Blackbeard? Sounds like a good name for a fish, and if you name it that, it will avoid the Curse of WB. (Whenever I name a fish, it is dead within a month)I see blackbeard![]()
Lamontichthys llanero; hum completely different genus.... i wonder what the key difference that separate the genus. Is that a Llamontichthys? I think Badger has a Sturisomaticthys Aureus
Blaclbeard algae on the wood. I agree blackbeard would be a good name for a fish though.Yep, they're Sturisomaticthys aureus, or at least that's what TWS said, and surely they wouldn't lie. Really, really cool fish, and fairly durable, too.

Oh, yeah, I have a little but it seems to mostly stay put. I leave it alone unless it gets rowdy, then I spray it with Excel.Blaclbeard algae on the wood. I agree blackbeard would be a good name for a fish though.

There, I gave your whiptail some love. I've kept some from the Farlowella genus, but they never lasted long. @Wills told me that some of them probably require specialized bacteria in their biofilm, and if one's tank doesn't happen to have it, they won't make it.Lamontichthys llanero; hum completely different genus.... i wonder what the key difference that separate the genus.
(everyone loves Whistle's but not mine guess that is why i'm a newbie)
Its one of the cooler looking algae.Oh, yeah, I have a little but it seems to mostly stay put. I leave it alone unless it gets rowdy, then I spray it with Excel.
OOH where'd you get them? In my opinion Llamontichthys are some of the sickest loriicarids and if I could find any in my area under $50 I might consider them.Lamontichthys llanero; hum completely different genus.... i wonder what the key difference that separate the genus.

I'm in usa so it is not clear that any place i would use would be relevant to you - i think they were around $70. THe one pictured is now a couple of inches longer and more broad;i have a new one that seems to be doing ok the past 2 months that is pretty small - he mostly moves around the top of aquarium eating biofilm. I'm a little surprise just how large they get.OOH where'd you get them? I got mine from The Wet Spot in Portland, Oregon. Not exactly next door to Ontario, I'm afraid.OOH where'd you get them? In my opinion Llamontichthys are some of the sickest loriicarids and if I could find any in my area under $50 I might consider them.
Yea these days there are only two stores i really use wetspot and aquaticclarity. Every now and then imperical tropical will have something i'm looking for but i don't really trust them. Neither wetspot nor aquaticclarity are cheap; and i've ordered enough from wetspot now and then they are willing to see if they can bring something specific in. To be honest these days i'm pretty full the only fish i want are d37 indria and lineta but to be honest i only have room for one.I got mine from The Wet Spot in Portland, Oregon.
