Just finished cleaning my small tank today when I saw a tiny movement in the corner - thought it was a lampeye at first, then realised it was far too small, then looked closely and saw panda markings - I have a baby cory!

The one I saw looked to be about 2-3mm, and then we saw one that looked to be about 6-7mm before we went out. Came back to do some serious fish watching and we have only seen the one since, probably about 5mm, don't know if it's the one(s?) we saw earlier or another. I have a large bit of bogwood that sits very close to the sand, so there's ample hiding space for them to stay undetected for a while.

I've had lots of eggs since I moved them into this tank with just the lampeye for company (only had a few batches when they were in with cupid cichlids and diamond tetra), but it never occurred to me that some may actually be viable, and actually hatch and actually survive!

Awesome, so excited for you, the patter of tiny fins.
Is this the first time they have bred?

They're so adorable! It's fascinating watching them grow to adults from babies

It's the first time I've found more than eggs.

The 7 adults don't seem at all fussed - they're mostly sticking together as usual and all ignoring it. It seems quite ok on its own - is this usual?

I can't say if it's usual. I have a bronze/albino 3 month old that has just recently started hanging out with the others.
Oh and congrats on the babies.

Gratz on the find !

I usually find baby corys in my Filter on my community tank.  My community fish seem to eat any fry in there,

How many did you find ?

It's quite usual, often the fry will hang out together but as they start getting bigger, they will feel more confident in joining the group, congrats on the new additions btw :)

Babies!!! I'm so envious. Been trying to get babies for more than a year, ever since I had two successful batches of bronze cory babies live to adulthood. Yay, you!

Yay!!  I just got some panda cories and hope to breed mine.  I have successfully bred albino and L/F pepper cories. I normally remove the eggs when I see them and raise the fry in another tank though because I have fish that would eat the eggs/fry(other than the adult cories LOL ).  I did find a juvinile albino cory in the main tank where I originally kept my adult albinos (and where they laid eggs when I had them) so even in a mostly aggressive tank, it appears that if it is well planted with enough hiding places -- it can survive.  Good luck and I hope you actually find that there is more than 1 running around in there.

Still only found the one, but I've seen quite a lot of eggs under the big bit of bogwood where the baby was hiding, so I guess there's the possibility of more soon. The bogwood seems to be perfect hiding space - as it's so low to the sand, there are spaces where the adult pandas can't get under, plus the only other fish in that tank are lampeyes, which though they go in all areas of the tank, don't investigate in and around the wood.

Sorry about poor quality, but it's hard to get a decent photo of a tiny fish hiding in a flowerpot...!

For scale, the flowerpot is 3 inches across as the widest point.

Yes, the tank is getting grubby, but I don't want to get in there with an algae scraper until he's bigger.

The original 2 photos that I appear to have moved within photo bucket!

In very centre, shown with adults (inch long) for contrast of size
