Hi

I'm hoping to locate my new aquarium in my bedroom, thinking of going for this model:

Juwel Rio 125

The advice I require is to do with the in-built pump / filtration system on this 'ready to go' model. As it's going to be sited in my bedroom I need it to be quite quiet so I can get to sleep at night :/ .

I'm not expecting the system to be silent, however I've only ever heard this model running beside other aquariums in a shop so I've no idea how quiet or loud it will be. I'd hate to buy it then set it up, only to realise on the first night it was too noisy!

If anyone can shed some light on noise levels created I'd be very grateful.

If its a fresh water you want to set up, you should be ok, i have a marine tank in my bed room, due to the skimmer is sooo noisey!!

Cheeky,

You ask an extremely broad question without telling us what you are going to be keeping in the tank. Freshwater, saltwater, Reef??? High stocking levels, low stocking levels? The questions are endless.

We need more details before we can offer any intelligent advice.

Hi

to answer some questions, I'll be putting freshwater fish in the tank, stocking levels will be average for the size of tank, don't want just 3 or 4 fish swimming around, however don't want to overstock and endanger health of the fish.

If there is such a thing as an 'average' setup, that's what I'll have. Really just wondering if the noise output from the model mentioned would be too much for a bedroom?

I've a smaller version of the filter in a Juwel Rekord 60, and that almost silent. I'd imagine the bigger version would make a little more noise, but in my experience Juwel powerheads are quite quiet.

I don't think it will make much noise at all. Even if it does, you tend to get used to it. I used to have several tanks in my room when I was a kid, in those days, the filters were air operated and bubbled away like witches cauldrons - never bothered me overly.

should hopefully be okay then. I'm far from being a kid these days but for various reasons the bedroom is the best place for it, as long as no one's saying to me they make way too much noise I think it should be okay.

I have 4 tanks in my room
I have aquaclear filters on 3 of them (100, 150 and 300) and they are all silent unless the water level is too low.

I have a penguin mini bio-wheel filter, this is the noisiest filter of the bunch, but like someone mentionned, you get used to it

Imagine living next to an international airport in a big city. You won't catch sleep for a week but after that, you won't even notice it!

thanks for the various advice, I'll be going ahead with the purchase of the Juwel Rio 125 in the coming weeks ... :D

I have a Juwel Rekord 96, it is in the living room and it is fairly quiet. I sometimes snooze in the armchair right by the tank and it never wakes me up. Hope that helps. :)

If you really are worried about noise I have found that external canister filters (like Fluval #04 or Eheims) are extremely quiet, especially if you sit the output below the water level.

But then I've never been a fan of internal filters... :dunno:

going by what you're saying, the internal filter systems can possibly be more noisy than quality external ones? would it make sense to buy the juwel rio 125 and buy an additional (external) filter to use ... or would this not be possible? or if i start going down that route am i as well buying separate componets instead of a ready to go unit :S

Errm,

If you are asking the question 'is it noisey', then you must be a little sensitive to noise.

In my experience, the Juwel compact H filter is very irritating. The whole damn tank resonates in sympathy with the powerhead. The main reason is the body of the internal filter unit is bonded to the tank. The best way to explain the noise is it's a low level drone. Annoying? - yes!

I have had to get an external filter for mine, before I took a hammer to it!

Go for an external filter too. And stand that on two off-cuts of filter hose. It works wonders for bedroom filters, it cuts down on the noise transmitted between the pump body and the tank stand.

Bliss......I can sleep now...

cheeky_chappie,

The Juwel tanks are just about the prettiest thing that you can buy short of a Rena tank. (IMHO).

They are well made, and everything matches. Buying a component system might not yield the same results, in terms of the overall look and integration on a visual level.

I would buy the Juwel, and see how you get on with the internal filter unit. It may not bother you at all. If it does, then go and get an external filter. Simple.

Just make sure you buy an external filter that can get it's hoses over the rear cutouts on the Juwel, they are a little small, and V-large or cumbersome elbows and things may make the lid stick up a little.

HI I have had a 125 in my bedroom
and it was very quite untill I added the Juwel
vetruri system to the powerhead.
after a few days my body had adjusted to the
noise and I slept very well.

I currently have 5 tanks in my bedroom and now find that
I don't sleep much if it is too quiet.
