my oscar is normally out and about alot and full of atitude today i caught her laying slightly sideways and has sum cuts on her, what should i do? a quik response would help tremendously <--- dictionary :D

How many gallons is the tank, how many fish and which type.
Can you post stats in ammonia, nitrite, nitrate, and ph.
When they lay to one side on the gravel it's a bacterial infection, the cuts on the fish how did she get them they could of got infected, you will need a bacterial med.
Has the fish darkened in colour.

dojnt know specifics, big tank. big fish, i cxan do a water change tonight if tht would help and i have some parasitic infestation treat stuff, also they wer done by a tankmate with big teeth.( gar )

There aggression then in the tank, you will have to measure the tank in length, width, and height then.
Plus name the fish in the tank.
You will need anti internal bacteria med by interpet.
Once the lay to one side they don't usually make it so i would be prepared, sorry.

but he is a very healthy good sized oscar, surely it wont just flop over and die ?

i noticed you said "slighly" to one side.. how slight is slight? mine sits at about 5-10 degree from vertical, when sat on the bottom, having a sleep. thats more due to the contour of the hole she dug to sleep in tho.

As for cuts, unless you saw them actually happen, hard to pinpoint what they are - cut be fighting, cut have been startled and swan into something, could have done it exploring, or trying to find a different way around things, could have done it trying to get to some tasty morsel blah blah..the list goes on!

Check your water, and examine the other fish for marks, and keep an eye on things for now.. She might just be having a stroppy day...

im gonne perform a water change later tonight and all other fish are fine, now that u mention it she was in a hole, and only slightly to one side, what is your opinion ?

assuming your water and stocking are fine, could be taking a nap, could be chilling out. O's are a hard fish, i would say she's fine, just keep an eye on here for a day or two, see how things go :)

will do, thanks for the hjelp. im gonne water change the tank later and hopefully the clean water should bring the fish happier :)

Oscars will lay slightly tilted when resting, pouting, or if they feel like it. Mine does it after a tank cleaning, or if I feed the tank next to his without feeding him.

A couple of gashes shouldn't be a big concern, as long as they aren't deep. Some melafix with water changes will help, just keep an eye out for any infection, as wounds can develop into this. Lots of fresh water is the key.

As Wilder asked, measure the tank, it's easy to figure capacity from there. I would rather see tank measurements than capacity anyway. If the damage was caused by another fish, a divider will be needed if another large tank isn't available. http://www.gcca.net/howto/tank_divider.htm shows how to make a cheap divider.

Once again, post results of water tests, folks here like to see numbers, "the lfs says my water is fine" doesn't tell us anything.
