Whay could go with a African Butterfly Fish(ABF) in a ten gallon tank, like what could be his/her tankmates and could the tank be planted? Thanks

Austin

an Abf should not be housed in a ten gasllon. as for tankmates any bottum dwelling species or any mid dwelling species over two inches that are not to aggressive.
:D

ABFs are fish that need room to roam around when the lights go out, and a 10g simply wont provide that. I keep mine in a 39g, but a 20g long should be minimum I'd think.

Happy to help.

Of course you should get him some plants! Make sure that the plants reach up to the top for him, too. I hat to say it, but at least get him some anacharis or something to hide and feel comfortable in.

Nevermind - posted too late

Agreed, too small for an ABF, I keep my two in my 50 breeder with my bichirs.

Ive just bought one, In the 219 L the angel fish and gouramis kept attacking it so I had no choice than to move it to the 54L tank, After a while would the angel fish and gouramis ignore it or am I best off not putting it in with angels and gouramis??

You'd agree that a 10g is too small for it though right? If it isn't compatible with your current fish, I can't see there is much option other than to rehome it, either to a bigger tank or to perhaps return it?

It just seems like there isnt enough room for it to swim about, The big tank would be spot on for it if it wasnt for the nasty fish, I pretty gutted as Ive wanted one for ages, I saw one yesterday and bought it, I read up on them 1st and didnt read anything about problems with other fish apart from the butterfly fish being capable of eating smaller fish
