but any type of animal fighting should be illegal, sure its still going to happen but if they get caught then its there you know what

none taken, but you obviously haven't seen my betta room if you think that. I actually need more time. I don't even have time to sit here and debate on how sorry we should feel for these fish but I do it anyway

I agree, fighting animals is cruel. If I heard people were having bunny fights I would curl up and die.
But to me, fighting bettas is a rich history. Now if some moron registers tomorrow (for example) and says "Hey! I just got 2 bettas from Walmart and I'm gonna fight em!!!" ,I would be absolutely appalled and I would have him banned righty-o (actually... that HAS happened before ) BUT, if somebody joined tomorrow and said "Hi, I'm a dedicated betta lover and I breed true fighting bettas, my family has done it for years" I would fight you all off with a stick to defend them

It's sick, but not at all shocking. There's TFF members who fight their bettas, but I'm not going there.

betta lova on ttf has 2 male crowntail bettas in a 10 gal and they dont fight,

i think this is where we're mixing our signals, i fully understand what you said there but theres a difference between breeding and fighting, i would fully support breeding too, and ive never done it but i know theres fighting going on when they breed, but any breeder can probably tell the difference between the 2 and would pull the 1 getting beat on away after a certain amount of time

yeah but there breeding them to fight, even if that is their nature whats the point of breeding something if your just going to put it in a situation where it can either be killed or severly injured

so they teach you how to properly keep your betta in good shape, thats teh only part of that site i agree with

but all im getting out of this is that this is like the UFC (ultimate fighting championship) train train train then go kick some butt in a cage

so what happens with the betta that loses? im guessing its killed because what goods a fighter if it cant fight when needed to

Don't ask me But I would imagine neither participant would want their fish terribly injured, so it must be easy to determine a winner pretty quickly. I would imagine after the loser retreats back home, he heals fairly quickly because he's in such good shape.And he's then more than likely given another chance,since he's not a cheap betta.
Again, I'm not saying "Yaaay,let's all fight our bettas!" by any means. I just find it interesting because each betta species is so different. I actually admire these fish for being so tough They have lives, they're not just sitting in tiny tanks waiting to die like some.

i guess it just boils do to human nature, i know i'll stop and watch a fight of anything because it is entertaining, but i dont find watching animals fight entertaining .. unless there mountain goats, i could sit an be amused watching 2 mountain goats knock there heads together all day long

true fighters are well treated they dont cost 4:99 they cost a hell of a lot more, they are conditioned and well fed.

when the loser has been determined it is taken out and treated, it isnt killed its looked after!



as for comparing this to mountian goats bangin heads together thats wrong on so many levels its hard to get a meaning out!, mountian gots, like so many other goats, antelopes and what ever else, only bash antlers with each other over mating!

its a competition for dominence.. there always has to be the alfa male/female in every breed, be it dog cat fish ect ect ect

fair enough in the wild ,the bettas wouldnt come across each other much... but when they do u sure as hell know theres gonna be firworks! and whos gonna be there to pull them apart uh??? greenpeace??
