A Very English Spring

Looking lush Ian, I like the colour of the tubes you're using too, the H.zosterifolia is really coming on!

Lovely tank as usual Ian! I wouldn't trim as of yet, it is now at its prime in my opinion. I just read the whole journal and I have noticed with regard to hardscape/wood placement that in corner tanks you always have your best results when the scape is not 'pointing' to any direction. The more 'upward vase' formation seems to work best in these tanks.

About the rams: I am having hard water too, and I have been keeping german rams (wild colour) for 1.5 years successfully. They are regularly being imported to Mexico (only males though unfortunately) and I checked the water at the import tanks before buying mine and it was very similar to my water.

Oh no! It stinks when you have a hardscape mishap. I'm also thinking about gradually doing an RO tap mix, but it'll be a while yet. Better to get the SW tanks established first.

Plant is lovely, has a different character. Almost doesn't look like a corner bow now.

Bit off topic but don't you use RO for the SW anyway?

i'd really love to get my plants looking more healthy, gives us plant noobs something to aim for

cheers Tizer, once you crack the flow and distribution around the tank you'll be flying. :good:

Gold rams ay? Really like them. You going for a pair?

Thanks KkAaNnEe, yes, i have always fancied the softer water fish, but in Lincoln our water comes out at 26 GH. Our MA has a separate section for softwater fish, our water is that hard. I have always liked the look of Gold Rams, i have tried GBR's before but they were back at the LFS in 3 days. They were not coping.

Cheers Jack, they are 2x 9000k JBL tubes, they look really crisp. The zosterifolia is doing better than i thought it would, it has it's red under leaves, but not on the top!

I agree, or maybe thats just a habit i have got myself into!lol I am going to try something completely different in this tank next. I have always wanted to see if a classic Iwagumi would work in a corner tank...

As i say i have tried them before without success, i have always wanted to try my water a little softer anyway.

Cheer llj, i thought that about the tank in the pics, maybe i could fool the IPLAC!

Yes you do, but llj is thinking about using RO in her planted after her SW tanks are settled. BTW my RO is re mineralised.

Id be interested to know what was your TDS from your tap in Lincoln is? I remember mine being like 440ppm

My LFS does the same as yours, and their ph runs at about 6 for the south americans. I am keeping mine at a ph of 7.0-7.5, i just tend to acclimatise very slowly, gold rams are really sensitive IME though, more than blues. Havent seen any ill effects yet but i understand that their life spans may decrease

I haven't got a clue what the TDS is for Lincoln, i bet Andy knows. The water is really hard as it runs directly from limestone. It'll be great if you are keeping Africans, i haven't had any problems with other fish, apart from those GBR's a while back. We'll see what happens. I'm gonna leave it a week or 2 more before i add anything sensitive.

Now this is what i call a seriously cracking photo.Good work. All i've got to do now is
(1) learn to grow more different types of plants
(2) learn to aquascape
(3) buy decent camera
(4) learn how to use said camera
(5) add a border.

Still wouldn't look this good though.
You'll be telling us next that you're suffering from a lack of sleep

and a full tank shot, about ready for a trim!

One of the best looking tanks i've ever seen Ian! Keep up the good work!
And is that Dwarf Hairgrass your using at the front?
Regards

wow guys, some nice things to say there!

Stu, just add a border, you're on a winner then mate :good:

And is that Dwarf Hairgrass your using at the front?

It's japanese hairgrass along the bottom and near the wood it's Eleocharis parvula.

He's missing his little "I am Ian Holdich" logo in the bottom right corner of the picture. :D Jason Baliban has a neat logo, you should take a look at his. Something with I and H would be rather cool, I think.

You could very well fool IPLAC, especially if you worked with contrast a bit in the photos.

I'm not sure if the 'JB' thing is my style, i'm way off the magic that those guys possess!

I reckon we could fool the IPLAC, i would be great if we could lol!

You could always write, "I am Ian Holdich" That would be very original...

It would be fun. Why don't they like corner tanks? What's their problem? Oh, it's because they can't scape one like you and I can! :hey:

we'll see what happens when i do the classic Iwagumi in a corner tank.

Or, we'll become super famous and design a competition that only allows for corner tanks. :D
