Well, a new betta fad has hit a petstore by me. Its called 'Betta in a Candle'. It's a betta in a candle holder (Less then 1/4 a gallon of water in there) sold with a candle. Basicly, you stick the candle on top of the candle holder where the betta is and use it as a decoration. The store had them all lit with wax dripping into the betta bowls, so I blew out all the candles. I stuck my finger in the water to see how hot it got, and it was way too warm for a betta.

I would have talked to someone there, but I couldn't find anyone.

Hopefully this fad won't last long.

I don't remember the name, but it's in Buffalo Grove, IL. I might go back there with my dad and have a 'talk' with someone there. (If I can even find someone who works there)

What kinda store is it?
Chain discount store?
What?
I can find it... I really can!!!
lol

Well, it's not Tropical World.
I'm guessing this isn't a fish store because if it is they should be shut down.

My bet is that it is a department type store or something along the lines of walmart?

Tell them there is a psychotic woman up in Wisconsin that wants to talk with them about their betta candles.
:shifty:

It's a petstore, they have lots of puppies, kittens, and small animals. It's very new, I think it only opened less then a month ago. They specialize in selling over priced pets to uneducated owners. (They have $900 kittens for sale)

They'll be hearing about that psychotic woman in Wisconsin, don't worry. ;)

Hopefully they just won't relight the candles. They were back far enough in the store where I doubt a staff member checks on them everyday, behind lots of shelfs and fish stuff in a corner. I don't even think they should have had a candle burning with all of that stuff around, it could have easily caught on fire.

 i love it go bettamomma i mean some stores can be so dumb but to be selling bettas under a flaming candle thats just torcher there water was got to be way hot for such a small size glass and hot wax how safe could that be for a betta i think its really cool that your going to stand up for the bettas.

How retarded are these places?
Not only is that wax toxic to the fish, but WE ALL KNOW how curious bettas are - they're going to be snooping around and get a big ol' drop of hot wax on their head
or on their tail
or in their EYE

They will be hearing from me - this pisses me off.

Okay, sorry for the rant.
lol

Im totaly agreeing with how curious bettas are not only has my betta gotten stuck in his castle and i have had to remove it he also scared the crap out of me this morning when i went to go feed him i left the top open and he jumped out and was laying there i was in shock i thought he was dead i quickly put him back in and he was alive thankfully and is doing fine got the lid secured.

is it called Oh for Pets sake? They usually charge really high prices for dogs and keep them in baby cribs.

Unbelievable.

Does wax get hard on contact with water...? It doesn't seem like it,especially if the water is warm. You know a betta will try to eat the hot wax :(

Oooh, that's something else I never thought of.
How dumb are these people??

I pity the poor fool who is working at the store someday when I go into the store and see bettas in a bowl with floating candles or a dead betta floating in a cup (heaven help them if there are several). I might even get arrested.

lol

Seriously?
In cribs?

That sounds like something I would do with my doggies, if I had dogs.

And probably the rest of us on the forum would, too.
LOL
