Thanks for the advice mate! Lights are off and I'm gonna do a water change and stop my ferts till I get my CO2 filled. I will have to check all the connections too cus it's gonna cost loads if I have to get it refilled every 2 weeks!

Welcome to the forums, looking really good sorry to hear about the algae and the CO2. I hope you can his it soon. Will be following this thread.

IMO there must have either been a leak in the system, or the canister wasn't full at the beginning. Hairgrass also is renowned for attracting certain algaes when C02 is low. Remove what you can manually, and keep the lights off. It there any way of getting some Easycarbo?? if so i would use some of that and pop the lights on for a couple of hours. If not then leave them off until you get the canister refilled.

Thanks Ross.

I will have a look on eBay see how much it is but cus of the bank holidays I don't think it would get here till close to firday anyway, I can't make it to the shop cus of work so I might just have to wait. Just did a 50% wc and try to get up as much as I could and the lights have been off all day so hopefully that might kick the algae attack back abit.

Here's some pictures of the algae im getting, Can some one help identify what sorts of algae it is please.

this indicates a lack of flow and C02 dispersion around the substrate. Up the flow and C02 dispersion and you should see a difference. Are you planning at putting a CUC in there?? A few amano shrimp would like this as well.

I have put in 2 ottos and i will be adding some amano friday. My CO2 is off untill friday but i have setup a yeast co2 untill then (just a temp setup) I think the issue with the flow is the depth of the tank, but i was hoping becuase the filter has a high flow rate for the size of the tank it would reach the bottom.

(I have also turned off one of the lights so im just running one untill friday, and iv down the light to 4 hours a day)

Once i get my co2 back on i will increase it.

Thanks for your help ian.

Here's the yeast setup im using:

the yeast set up isn't going to help IMO, yeast produces a fluctuating C02 rate in a 55ltr with a 500ml canister. You'd need a couple of 2 ltr bottle to really produce enough C02 to make a difference.

Your probably right! I have no idea how good these things are, and to be honest its only untill friday and I will have my co2 refill. I didnt want to leave the lights off till then nor did I want to put them on with out some sort of co2.

Week 3 update

Got my CO2 refilled today and purchased a second bottle as a back up, still tackling an algae attack which with the CO2 running out for 4 days and the black out of the lights has slowed the growth down, I didnt have to trim the plants this week and iv stoped my ferts untill i get this algae under control. lights are now running for just 4 hours a day and WC every 4 days. I have angled the return of the filter which distribute the CO2 in the hope that it increases the flow and C02 dispersion around the substrate.

Week 4 update.

Still fighing off the algae, iv doubled up on my wc and cut the ferts right down. I trimmed the plants today and theres alot more runners now which im happy to see, cant wait to see this tank fully carpeted.
