My froggies are very tiny and almost entirely terrestrial, and my fish are all very fast (and mostly wild-caught). I don't think the fish and frogs are even aware of each other. Ignorance is bliss, and they all live together in harmony. I'll try to get a video of the whole thing one of these days. It's a rather nice setup for both worlds, if I may say so. :)

I discovered a little cave in the moss beside the waterfall where Ago has been hiding out. So I took a walk and found some rounded bits of cottonwood bark which will make tiny caves. Hopefully this will make them happier and less inclined to vanish and worry me.
I missed it but what species are the frogs? I want to read up on them.

Fire belly toads. Bombina orientalis. I often call them frogs because that's what they really are. Sometimes, common names annoy me, so I have my little rebellions. ha ha

I might or might not try a couple of in the spring - i have an area that is 48 inch long and 18 inch wide for growing plants above my aquarium with a mister that runs every couple of hours. It isn't as nice as your setup but it might work. Of course the negative is they are deadly to the touch - one touch and you wish you had died :(

Nah, they aren't that bad. Most sources say that their poison is "mildly irritating" if it hits broken skin. I don't touch them if I can help it, more for their sake than for mine. I doubt they have ever been scared enough to actually put out any poison. Just don't try to eat them. Sorry if that ruins anybody's plans. ha ha :)

Ago likes his bark cave. (There are beautiful fish in there too. I’m just a little obsessed with the frogs lately)

Ordered some Java moss for the waterfall. A year in, and this tank is getting about as close to being "done" as a living tank ever is. Really need to do a new video. But who has the time, with bows to build, naps to take, and snowshoe trails to explore?

I thought you were one of those who could do videos in their sleep ?

I've had several of them disappear exactly the same way. I thought dimming the lights would take care of it, but I guess I was wrong. He disappeared when I had the waterfall turned off for a couple days to attach some mosses. I'm afraid he burrowed into the moss to escape the dryness, and never came out.

I knew he was probably gone on Saturday, when I did a water change and accidentally overfilled the tank, flooding the moss areas for a few minutes. If he had simply been hunkered down in the moss, he would have surfaced then.

I believe I've had six or seven of these frogs disappear from this tank, and I have yet to find a body. That is really, really strange.

I also got some Taiwan moss for the waterfall. I've had a terrible time getting any moss to take there. Even Java moss withered away and disappeared. Too much flow, I suppose. It would look so nice with some moss!

In other news: I'm definitely down to one frog now. It makes me really sad. I miss Ago. He was such a cute little guy, and the one that lasted longest. As usual, no body, no sign whatsoever of what happened to him. Just vanished. I thought I had it figured out with dimming the lights, but I was wrong. Why can't I keep these little guys? I like them so much, and by all measures and everybody I've talked to, I've provided them with an absolutely perfect habitat. It really makes me sad.

My guess is the survior is eating the ones that vanish ;) More pragmatically female frogs do eat males.
