With the space behind the background why not use some sponge or bio balls for extra bacteria ? I don't mean cram it in, just enough to give you some extra mechanical filtration. This is how it works in the tank Nelly posted the youtube link for.

Must be reading my mind :hyper:
I was looking tonight in the pet shop for exactly that. :good:

Thanks Nelly
we're getting some more plants this weekend and possibly bolivian Ram and Red spot severum.

What a great idea with the background wood section. I may have to get that done to my newst tank, when ever that comes. Nice idea!!!

Yer i think it helps the whole effect. Plus the fish love eating algae thats growing on it.

hmmm, i like that a lot, infact im in newport and think you should donate it to me :D out of the goodness of your heart of course

nicest tank ive seen in a long time mate :)

Really Liking the Background.

Thank you. Your welcome to have it for a bag of money
If your ever in the area feel free to pop in for a look.

Really Liking the Background.

Background I agree is fantastic.

Great looking tank! I also love the background. I'd like to find something like this once I get a large tank setup although I've never seen anything like that for sale at my LFS (ON, Canada).

The real background gives the tank a much richer appearence. Is it sealed on the sides? How do you stop the little fish from getting behind it?

Hi
Thank you for your comments.

Yes the background is sealed down the sides and bottom to stop unwanted water. There are 2 holes at the very bottom big enough for air tubes to go into the tank.

If you look at the pictures of it being filled you will see the water is coming through a hole on the left of the tank. this hole is just right size for a heater guard to fit in thus preventing fish from getting through.

On the right hand side near the top by the trunk structure is another hole where water is pumped back into the tank from the filter.

I will try and do some slightly more detailed pics showing the features of day to day running.

Great. All water level's (Ammonia, Nitrate, Nitrite) are either Nill or very low.
I ordered a second filter yesterday to site internally behind the background to help move water and give a little extra filtration.

Some how I have got some pest snails already even though I was so so so careful with the things I put in to thoroughly check them over.
If it comes to it I will move my assassin snails from my second tank into this one. they completely cleaned out my last one.

I've also got 100 or so Apple snails currently growing in my third tank. Once their a good size I will move a number down for algae control.

I'm hoping the cost of the Aquaray lights will start to go down soon as I'd like to fit them as a second light source.

Snail's ha they get everywhere, i have them in all three tank's but how they get there elude's me  maybe i get egg's stuck to my arm or something similar...glad to hear its going good, do those assasin snails really do that much :shifty:
