Hi everyone
I'm setting up a 5 gallon cube soon but I'm still not sure about what I want to put in the tank. Do any of you guys have some original options, original as in not shrimp, Betta .... basically the fish that are on a top 10 list on YouTube. Some people say sparkling gourami's are okay in a 5 gallon but I'm still having serious doubts (Although I really want to get them). If any of you guys have other cool options please let me know!!!

What is you water hardness? (The pH and GH of your water)

If there were any other options, they wouldn't be original, because they'd have been suggested ages ago.

What about one of the rarer species of Betta? Like Imbellis, Coccina or Picta. There are others that are similar small sizes and could work.

Badis or Dario are a good candiate (hopefully its a decent footprint) Black Tiger Badis are my faves.

Like said above though the biggest thing is working out your water hardness.

if your water is soft and acidic enough or you can make it so then you could have a school of boraras brigittae in a black water biotope with some snails and some species of ghost shrimp
Edit: just try to only use females as males are terriotrial and fight during mating season if there isnt enough space

thanks for responding everyone, Badis are a no go as I discovered they are hard to feed. I'm probably going to go for a school of brigittae Rasboras. Is a school of 7 okay?

yes but remember to only use females or only 1 male as males can be territorial. For food i would go with powder food, brine shrimp, vinegar eel and daphnia. They are native to borneo so you can use java moss, bucephalandra, microsorum, salvinia natans and cryptocoryne sp. for the plants, remember they like a planted aquarium with difused light so a floating plant and an overall planted tank is obligatory, they also live in black water so for them to thrive you will also need leaf litter and wood pieces to add tanins and lower the Ph, their optimal parameters are temperature: 20-30 degreed celsius, Ph: 4.0-7.0, Gh: 20-180 ppm. If you want them to trhive use these parameters and i hope you enjoy them.
