to be honest i want a little bit of a challenge. i think both would work visually but if HC fail's me iv allways got riccia to back it up =]

The reason I said Riccia too was if it's shadowed by the wood the HC will struggle.

I like Riccia, very effective and is a fantastic colour.

There seems to be too many variables with HC. Tall and leggy, hit and miss, doesn't like shade, needs maintenance...

true if the wood dose shadow it it might not grow to well but then some people grow it in low light set ups as well..

i like riccia but i want a little bit of a challenge and HC seems to be a challenge to me . i can always remove the HC and put riccia in later

i think the HC has taken off a little. it seems to be spreading out more but that might just be my eyes

Blimey Mike... That is going to take ages to cover! I would either try and carpet a smaller area or buy another pot. I would soon lose interest in waiting for that to carpet without pressurised Co2.

im getting some more of it... i think its because i planted each little stem (which id do again with another pot) but just closer togeather

update:

ordered some HC on the 29th of December. arrived today.
separated it up and put it in the tank, its a bit lanky and light green. (i think its been grown under low light/ not had enough light for a few days)

started planting it individually.

then i got bored of doing that so i just did clumps

original HC is spreading out nicely.

riccia is growing out a lot. will have to trim it soon

FTS. and i took the moss off the wood at the back

got a defuser on the way to make a DIY CO2 set up =D but that wont be here for about a week.

Helferi should be on its way soon =D

if the Hc doesn't work out for you Mike, try some Glosso. The tank hardscape is really good, really nature aquarium.

update.

ok quite a lot has happened.
the Helferi has arrived yesterday. (thanks steve)
and my diffuser has arrived. i built a simple yeast set up.
and added another filter to the tank- just to increase the flow a little. + it was spare the tanks like a were-pool at the moment
