thanks :good: what do you think ian HC or riccia where the purple is?

looks like pressurized co2 is off my xmas list tho :( mum dosent want a big pressurised bottle in my room. im adding liquid carbon at the moment but id really like gas as well. :(

also i have no idea about stocking... any suggestions? i want blue pearl shrimp in the tank and afew otos and a small schooling fish any suggestions? (not neons. already got some of them)

I think Riccia...you're mastering the riccia. Your HC doesn't look to healthy. Pity about the C02, theres always Andy's thread that you could follow and give a go...

as for stocking, some copper harlequins and some decent shrimp would looks good in there.

i might give the yeast method ago.
i think its the picture quality its looking bright green in the tank.
is there anything i can do to help the HC out?
heres some better pics of it =D

i might go for harlequins =] either that or chilli rasboras

CO2 would help that HC bigtime...it needs plenty of flow as well. I would still go for Riccia, also can you dig the mesh into the substrate a little, this would give it more of natural look, rather than having the mesh just balanced on the sand.

thanks i'll try to get some from of co2 into the tank... i'll try the yeast method. although im worryed i'll be messing about with algae in the near future...

and i'll dig it in a little now :good:

the thing is Mike, if it's working now and you're not seeing any/very little algae and also getting results, i'd be tempted to carry on as you are.

true but i like pearling. and at the moment im only getting it when i do water changes, so im tempted to do the yeast method... although all the water chemistry will change when i add fish, so i might just stick some in =]

Great thread, and the tank is looking great Mike. Good work

If your mum isn't keen on having a Co2 bottle in your room, how about something like an Optimat aerosol style unit. They work just as well as large units, and are as safe as a can of air freshener. I think you can get a complete system for a little over 15 quid, and refills are about 5-7 quid.

thanks =] and yer i might settle for one of them... she wouldn't mind that happing although i dont want to keep buying refills (worked it out the same amount of CO2 as in the FE would cost £500 in refills from a set i was looking at, that just seems a waste of money to me...

I see an accountant in the making

. If you do end up ever going down the FE route, do check first that you have somewhere local where you can have it refilled. I have seen a lot of people writing on here saying that they are having problems finding somewhere to recharge FE units. Some years back I had a go at using a yeast reactor(homemade), and I soon got fed up with that, as I found it more hassle than it was worth. Either way, good luck mate, and keep the updates coming

i'll keep updating it =] and it might even be more becasue the kits dont have solenoids on them so its probs double that...
na id be a crap accountant. i just like finding the cheapest deals :good:

thats why i dont want to go down the yeast route

the tanks got liquid carbon in it atm but i think it could do with more

Looking good, I would go with Riccia on the right to balance out the riccia on the left. Is your HC getting enough flow ? Just wondered if that was the problem. Does seem to be lagging behind. The dwarf chain at the back is lovely too. Another of my favorite plants. Now if only I can get my substrate sorted I might even get to put some of my favorites in a bloomin tank ! hehe

thanks =]
i know what you mean about balancing it out, more i think about it the more i want to go with HC. id quite like the L sorta shape flowing down a valley type of look. i might try HC first if it doesn't grow nicely i'll swap it to riccia. (i dont have enough riccia at the moment todo another carpet effect)

flow could be a problem i have only got a small internal filter in there. was thinking of adding a power head to the tank and suggestions?
i also think i should leave like 1 or 2 small bits of flint in there if i go with HC to break up the carpet a little

i got got rid of the guppies and traded them in for the chain swords i wanted something at the back but i didn't know what. they seems to fit in perfectly though
