2023-2024 NFL Discussion

The Dolphins got a pick six 2 seconds before the half for a 99 yard touchdown.. amazing!

Totally agree on the pick six but I talking about the extreme increase in injuries since the NFL made recent changes to, supposedly, decrease injuries. To me it makes no sense to restrict contact during practice dramatically and still expect the players to be able to perform at full speed during a game. With almost no actual contact allowed in practice the players are just not in the proper condition for an actual game and the increase in injuries back this up.

I'm a bit surprised to see that the Denver Broncos are favored over the Cleveland Browns in week 12. With the Browns having the #1 defense in the league and Denver having one of the weaker offensive lines I would have expected the Browns to be favored. Actually, in a way, I guess the Browns really are favored. Denver is at home and the home team always tends to get three points when figuring the point spread yet Denver is only favored by 1 1/2 points which could be seen as the Browns actually being favored. :dunno:

Actually this game worries me a little. The Browns should win but yet Denver has won four games in a row...

Denver is going to have big problems scoring against Cleveland defense. Have no worries.

The Patriots play the Giants today---two of the worst teams in the NFL. My worry is that the Patriots may want to lose so they can get first pick in the draft. Pats are starting Mac Jones again...guess they didnt learn that lesson that Mac is just a poor Quarterback this year.

The results are exactly why this game worried me. While the defense didn't play up to their normal standards the offense just can't get out of their own way. How many dropped passes, at least half a dozen?

I just don't like Kevin Stefanski any more as the head coach for the Browns. Offensively he just does not allow the Browns to use their main strength which, even with Chubb out, is still the strongest part of their offense. RUN THE BALL!!!

From the perspective of a Browns fan this was a totally disgusting game that was lost by inept coaching.

On the other hand I have to give credit to Denver as they played a really good game. There were a couple of cheap hits by the Denver defense that put a couple of the Browns offensive players out of the game but both were borderline.

Yes indeed. Very disappointing. Good Thing I did not gamble on the game.

Anyone watching the Sunday night game, as a chargers fan, it’s normal to have the refs miss every single personal foul for them. But I really don’t understand how you could miss a fair catch interference penalty. It is so explicitly simple, as well as a hit after the play was over/out of bounds. If someone steps out and gets hit…THATS THE PENALTY. If someone calls a fair catch and gets touched by the other team, interfering with the ability to make the fair catch, THATS THE PENALTY. Refs are blind.

You have seen me often say that my Browns should run the ball more. I was thinking about this tonight and brought up a Browns highlight DVD type of what the Browns did way back when. Throughout the history of pro football Cleveland has had more outstanding runners than any other team. A lot may be too young to remember some of the names I will bring up but they are some of the best runners in the history of football. Some name spellings may be wrong but I'm pretty much going from memory....

Of course the running attack has to be led with the name Jim Brown but he may not have been the Browns' best runner but we will save that for a bit later...

After Jim Brown we had Leroy Kelly. He was not a Jim Brown but still special. In his first season he ran for over 1000 yards when that actually meant a lot.

Skip ahead and we have Mike and Greg Pruitt. And let us not leave out Eric Metcalf. Oh, the Browns also had one of the best running tandems with Kevin Mack and Earnest Byner both having over 1000 yards rushing in the same season.

If you were to make a list of the top 50 runners the Browns would easily cover at least 8 if not 10.

OK, I said the Browns may have had a better runner than Jim Brown. As impossible as that may seem there was a man named Marion Motley that was the runner before Brown. Motley was not fair. He was larger than two defensive players combined and fast. He was like a man playing with kids. I don't expect the name Motley to be remembered unless one was to be an old time Browns fan but he was a force of nature. He still holds the record for average yards per carry at 5.7 throughout his entire career. Jim Brown averaged 5.2 yards per carry.

Oh, as to records... Jim Brown still has one that is never mentioned. He is still the only runner ever in the NFL to average over 100 yards per game. Not that he had over 100 yards every game but he averaged over 100.

Sigh, so today they keep the history of having a superior running attack so why won't they run the danged ball?????????? :dunno:

The Pats didnt disappoint....they LOST AGAIN as expected. They can't even beat the lowly Giants. Maybe now they learned their lesson and will remove Mac Jones as the starting quarterback. Perhaps they just want to lose to claim the #1 draft pic for next year

Games i will be watching today on local tv channels
Pats vs Chargers @ 1PM .... Zappe playing his first full game this season...replaces Jones

49ers vs Eagles @ 4:25 PM..... two top teams...my favorite QB for 49ers ... Brock Purdy first full season..23 yrs old

Chiefs vs Packers @ 8PM

I'm watching Denver/Houston right now. Don't know who is being shown for the late game. All the guide says is "HD, Live, Action from the National Football League.". Been getting that a lot lately instead of who is playing. I'm hoping that it is Browns/Rams. If not I'll listen to the Browns' radio broadcast with NFL Red Zone on the screen muted.

What about those Lions eh?. Which I believe is the traditional North American opening line concerning a subject that no one in their right mind expected to be happening twelve months previously! Are they sneaking an extra Lion onto the field of play when no one’s looking?
Whats going on over there?

Purdy and team do it again 42 to 19
The Pats again did not disappoint…as expected they lost again in an embarrassing game…6-0
