I'm not denying that is the case. What I am saying though is there are plently of other valid reasons to close the topic but i don't see why one persons, ie a mods, personal views should be THE reason to close it. No-one is denying it was a tragedy, however everyone has personal tragedies in their lives but that doesn't give you the right to close topics because you personally don't agree with them...
Members are supposed to abide the sites rules and that applies even more so for moderators as they should lead by example. At no point am I saying the thread shouldn't have been closed if it broke house rules, what I am saying is the reason that was given was nothing other than an abuse of personal power imo and considering a number of the rules were broken as has been stated already, then I'm rather dismayed that the moderator in question is still stating they closed it for their own personal reasons (and other members as stated here):

why would that be the case? I don't remember reading one single post in that thread by anyone stating they were hurt by what was said(please correct me if I am wrong)...yet the moderator states they MUST assume others were. I'm saying no-one was other than the mod themsevles and trying to say they did it for others is just a weak excuse with no evidence whatsoever.

Regardless of that last comment....Topics/posts should be closed for breaking rules stated in this website and NOTHING ELSE. Otherwise it shows a lack of continuity between the moderators and that is a bad thing.

I don't think SH is letting his personal involvement cloud his descision, I think he's more sticking up for the thousands of people who could feel terribly hurt by reading the comments on that topic.

I'm not sure how you can say that when he pretty much admits it himself here:

by the simple fact that he has capitalised himself, shows he closed it more for himself than for anyone else...although I'm still wondering where these 'others' are, as I haven't seen one of these afformentioned people say anything in either the thread itself before it was closed or in the discussion about it afterwards.

I agree that the reason given by SH was not the best post for closing a thread, and there were indeed a number of better reasons to post why the thread should have been closed.

But then, what can one expect? It is obviously an emotional event. Are we expecting too much (or even the completely wrong thing) from our mods?

Would we perhaps prefer a "RoboMod" who only has the TFF rules for his directives? Think how bad such a robotic person would be, applying the rules of TFF in an exact and specific way.

I was originally a little critical of SH and the reason posted, but while drafting this I realised I want mods who get emotional about things. I want a person to be modding, and everything that goes with a personality. From time to time there will be personality clashes between the mods and other members (even mods) but that is far better than the alternative forum devoid of any personality in those that moderate.

So in summary, perhaps - when viewed in the cold hard light of reason - SH should not have posted in quite the way he did. So what? None of us infallible (even I ). I fail to see how this thread answered, or will answer, the OP's question better than a PM to SH would.

Agreed Andy, between a mod-bot and a human moderator I would choose the same as yourself and I also appreciate people who stick up for what they believe in. But at the same time, is a thread best dealt with by someone who has personal issues directly related to the event in question? Surely the best thing would of been to pass it on to someone else who wasn't quite so involved.

Anyway after having spoken to another mod through pm's I am satisfied in their response and have no need to carry this on any further.

I think I should just clarify here. When a topic gets pulled from a public forum, a headsup to the other mods is made in the mods forum. In this case SH said: "wasn't happy about this thread. Feel free to reopen it if anyone feels otherwise.". There were obviously no objections to this action as there were numerous problems with the topic and replies. Indeed SH's reason "NO GENERAL CHAT FORUM HERE" is as good as any other reason for closing it. Now this topic is closed too.

Thanks for your support. It's obvious that Darkstar and others here like to quote everything but the right line. Now everyone knows why you should be very careful about what you read in the newspaper...a magazine or forum. Things that people say are frequently taken out of context. All the things quoted by Darkstar were true. But...he didn't quote the one line that William had to quote from my post:

There is no General Chat Section here. 9/11 conspiracy or events of that day come under General/ Political chat.

Yes Darkstar...they were disturbing to me. Yes..having been there, I still deal with the tragedy and the loss
