Not the same store, but they are some of the "regular" stores where I've gotten my fish for my home tank.  No issues with them.

Well I hope no one is playing bad jokes with the tanks.
Have you tried some serious overdose of dechlorinator and some carbon maybe?
Whatever the reason, it's still strange the corys aren't affected that's why I am inclined to believe it isn't a toxin of some sort.
If it is, it would be an interesting thing to find out why corys aren't affected by it.
Other than that, maybe some sort of virus/bacteria coming from the water supply that only affects certain fish. Corys can be resistant to certain diseases so it wouldn't surprise me.

No bad jokes.  The students weren't even here yesterday!

I haven't tried overdosing dechlor.  There was some carbon in the big tank.  I use Penguin filters by Marineland.  Their filter cartridges come with the carbon already in there.  I didn't feel like playing with them.

Disease is possible, but what acts so quickly?!  We're talking about death in less than 24 hours.  That's why I think a contaminant of some sort makes more sense.  The fish also look perfectly fine after death, no loss of color even! :dunno:

Water tests it is!

But then why isn't that toxin affecting the corys I wonder.. They are tough, but I wouldn't think they won't be affected considering the rest die within 24 hrs. If it is something that doesn't affect labyrhinth fish, then a betta should have even better chance of survival. Maybe you can get one for the 10G. It's hard suggesting more fish but I am out of ideas.

I'm going to get the water tested next and see what comes back before I get anymore fish.  The cories surviving (and dare I say thriving?) is the part that stumps me the most as well.  I probably won't get any more fish until September, although I might add a few more C. leopardus, if I can find some.

Eagles I'm so sorry!

I think if you can source some more cories maybe add a few to the tank with danios also and then some blood fins.
See who is alive in the morning ........ if the danios and cories survive but bloodfins don't, then you know it's them that are particularly sensitive. Maybe neon tetra too, so you have another sensitive type?

Ugh I know what I'm trying to say, it's just not coming out very well :/

I was going to suggest filling the 10 gallon with different water and then adding a few bloodfins to see what happens.  Eagle's right though, it's not fair to keep using the fish as test subjects so getting the water tested first is the best idea!

Yes water test primarily. :)

It's just hard to get your head around what's going on....

This process has reached an end. We will continue to find out about this next school year. The cories are getting moved back home for the summer, and we will try to figure this out for next school year. Not giving up, just postponing anything in the near future. I will probably start a new thread for that and link to this one for anyone curious enough to check the history of this nightmare tank! I'll lock this one at that time. Thanks for following along everyone, and I'm sorry this tank never really got off the ground. :(

Better luck next time!  Let us know the results of the water tests when you get them.

What awesome bit of wood!!! Love this tank!

Thanks SLIM. It has a long way to go as I didn't aquascape it properly, had a massive plant melt initially but it's growing nicely now. Did you get your lights?

Lets us know if you get to the bottom of it
