Sorry for the delay in updating things... we are still moving forward with the current hypothesis - cleanser from the air getting into the tank.  We have a 10 gallon that's set-up next to the 110.  It has a lid and is just finishing up its cycle.  We should be able to have another go with a few fish in that tank to see their prognosis.

If they survive in the 10 gallon, we will get the full cover for the 110 and try it there after a few super huge water changes to remove any residual cleanser that might be in the water.

Meanwhile, the 3 cories continue to go along with no issues.  They still swim quickly away when my students approach, but they seem to be getting quite used to me.  They don't swim away as much when I approach.  And, as with any cory, they get very active during a water change.

Sounds like a plan!  Are you going with bloodfins in the 10 gallon?

Yes, as a temporary home.  I'd never keep them there long term, its just far too short for their active lifestyle.

Cleaning up some algae in the tank today and the cories just hung out right next to where I was working for a little while, before they got annoyed and slowly swam away as a group - kind of purposefully, like they were teenagers being annoyed by some adults.

Hey Eagles, not trying to convince you or anything

but if you want to have a look at my cory mainly tank here for ideas what fish to keep :)

That was cool to watch...  What cories were they, I couldn't tell from the vid?

I will consider it.

I'd happily take that driftwood though!  WOW, that thing is amazing!  How big is it?

Thanks Eagles.
It's a 5f tank-375 litres.
The corys are my hybrids from albino and gold laser parents spawn which I accidentally raised without really realizing it's possible to have hybrids.  So since I can't give them away or sell them I setup this tank to keep them. There are a few more to be transferred in a while and I am also keeping their albino siblings as well. I am just taking it slow not to shock the system as the tank is new.

Here is a closer video of some of them in a fry tank so you can see how they look. They are mostly yellow :)

Simply gorgeous!  Thanks for sharing that.

Thanks Eagles.
I can't wait for yours to develop. It's such an unlucky one.

My tank didn't start without problems, thankfully not fish wise.  I had a huge setback and issues with getting my lights on time, my plants nearly died. A big anubias I bought melted to nothing including the rhizome and I lost lots of stem plants, my red lotus and even a very rare here floating plant(trapa natans). I spend a lot of money on plants just to end up with nearly empty tank. The tank is slowly recovering now. I bought a faulty powerhead for my sand bed filter I had to return and it took them a month and a half to refund and it was an expensive one so I had to wait.  I had to figure how to fix a leaking filter that came with the tank but managed that.
The lights in my other tank blew up too at the same time. My corys in another tank(most of the ones that are in this tank now) developed a bacterial problem a few months ago after a substrate change and 4 type of meds didn't work but they seem on the recovery now after water changes almost everyday for months. I think it was the jbl black sand as it felt like tiny powder like sand but abrasive and the corys got sick/lost barbesl soon after I put that in the previous tank.

But all looks good at the moment.

I am sure yours will be fine very soon. If the corys are still doing well it can't be that bad. It's just a tough one to figure out.

Wow i had no idea cories were so active!
Wish I could keep them, my water's a bit hard though.

My water is hard too, Gh-12, Kh-8 and Ph-7.4. It doesn't bother them and they breed like crazy too.
I am convinced corys should be kept in larger tanks though. They get depressed in small tanks. And there are 20 corys in that tank, soon to be over 30 so it shows their real behaviour better.

Yup, the more the merrier!!!

You should check out the youtube videos of corys in the wild - amazing!
