What Would I Be Getting Myself Into?

I have cory fry, which were not expected. (i only have two and usually you need 6 for sucsessful spawning) anyway I feed then first bites, a powder that you soak and then put in the fry water and then frozen baby brine. I would like to point out that you get very attatched to 'YOUR' babies that...

    Flying With My Betta

hey there, after reading other replys I thought, No way! There has got to be a better way then to give your fish away. Then I looked into it and it is about 85.00 average to take your fish on airlines that actually allow it, and then there was also some advice about water solutions that were...

    Are These Hurting My Betta?!

My Betta had a minor case of fin rot (I think, not sure what else it could have been) I used Betta Revive and everything filled in nicely. You can't tell anything was wrong. I also have Corys with my Betta and am pretty sure they would never even think about fin nipping. ( I put him in the ER...

    Fish Dying...need Help!

just wanted to mention not to let your filter (media) sit out of water too long when taking it out to rinse off in old tank water ( kill off the good bacteria) and that your good bacteria will only grow to maintain what you have in your tank, no more, no less so that is why it is advised to...

    2 Unexplained Deaths

how did you cycle you tank before you put the fish in? For fishless cycling not all pre-bacteria kits work, some of the products out there do not even have the right bacteria for freshwater cycle requirements. I'm not sure if the cycling is even a possibility but it can sometimes take up to 3...

    2 Unexplained Deaths

how long have you had the fish? How long did you have your tank set-up before you put your fish in? How did you cycle your tank? Do you have a test tube (api) test kit? What were your ammonia, nitrites, and nitrate levels? What size tank do you have? That information should get you some...

    S-Shaped Betta

hows everything going? I was looking into it some more (love google) and I found another website that says swim bladder is not the only disease that can cause a fish to swim in an S shape. They also mentioned vitamin deficiency (it stated some fish need more than one source of food) do you...

    S-Shaped Betta

I still think its swimbladder. Stay away from brine and bloodworms. Do you do pellets? Ive heard of those expanding in their tummys. I think you should probably keep doing what your doing. If shes having a hard time getting to her food you can always lower the water level for her. Sorry and...

    Betta In A Community Setting

I second baccus...enviroment is very important. I too have my betta in the community and he has never had any of the 'common' betta diseases. Hes been in there for four years this August. The corys seem to annoy him every once in a great while when they get too energetic but all is well...

Major Issue With Tank. Need Urgent Help

It Is common for Guppys to suffer from swim bladder after mating. You should treat the tank with Mardels Maracyn two or a broad spectrum antibiotic (as long as the myxacin is out of the water)

    Possible Sick Glowlight Tetra

Not sure about the color fade, (do you mean the lines are looking white that go from front to back on his body or his whole body?) they are known for their darting and chasing. I had four and they all did the same, as far as the twitching that also sounds familiar. I think he's fine.

    Cold, Cold Tank

so sorry..I see why you commented on your bad week in the conch thread. FYI- Autotrophic bacteria dies at temps below 32 degrees, stops growing ay 39 degrees, and doubles every 12-20 hours, so depending on how long the heaters were out you may not have lost a lot of 'good' bacteria, since at 59...

Inadvertently Brought Home A Live Conch

you can use distilled if they don't have RO (same thing, different methods) most stores and grocers carry it with the bottled water

    My New Betta!

Mine used to sit at the bottom also then I got some silk hanging ivy with a suction cup and suctioned it at the top of the tank. He loves it and sleeps there, rest there, and retreats there, just cuddled up in the leaves. I noticed you have a Roman type pillar in your tank...how about roman...

    Betta Not Eating?

Also, Betta (as well as lots of other tropical fish) tend to gulp flakes and then spit them back out to break them down. While they are 'chewing' the small piece they broke off they spit the rest of the flake out and then they go back for more. I'm not sure if that is what yours is doing or not...

Ph Fluctuations, New Tank, Not Cycled, With Fish

OM47 - one more thing, I had suggested wood to slowly lower the PH can she use that if she's already bought it? And if so can she boil it and still get the same outcome? Thanks again

Ph Fluctuations, New Tank, Not Cycled, With Fish

OldMan47 - will the coral increase the PH of the water? And what about the Prime? Should she keep using that or is that interfeing with the cycle?

Ph Fluctuations, New Tank, Not Cycled, With Fish

no, you are correct - but if you read her excel sheet it looks like her tap water is way out of wack. It seems like she is doing everything by the book so I'm just trying to tweek things a bit and I thought maybe if she diluted her water a bit with RO it will bring her KH/GH readingd down also...

Help! Red Blotches On Fish And Unable To Swim

Just for future reference, I screwed up my good bacteria once on an established tank by cleaning the media a little too good and the tank basically had to start over again, don't know if that could apply to you but worth mentioning. So sorry to hear about your little guy...it's always so sad...

Hey there, Are you in America? Maybe I can help you find a reputable fish store. I have an AWESOME one about 45 minutes from me but it's worth the drive, they test my water for free and sometimes the second opinion is needed. Plus I can call them anytime to get advice. As for Prime I am...

Help! Red Blotches On Fish And Unable To Swim

how long has your tank been established? It sounds like burns fom ammonia - the ammonia level is always highest at the bottom of the tank. There is a product out there to help repair the damage, Amquel I think? Do you have Prime you could add to get rid of the ammonia, of course if the tank...

    Boyfriend's Betta

you could also get Cardinal Tetras, they look almost identical to the Neon but are not nippy. (I know because I have 6 with my Betta, and had a different batch with him a couple years back. Ph Fluctuations, New Tank, Not Cycled, With Fish

I do not recommend using any type of PH adjusters. If you start using them you have to use them on every water change, and personally I think that would be more stressful to your fish. Keep in mind your PH is always going to fluxuate. Just the light alone is going to change it during the day...

Ph Fluctuations, New Tank, Not Cycled, With Fish

Whew...where to start. As far as the PH level lowering, that is a good thing. It's part of your cycle, when the ammonia cycle begins at a, lets say 8PH it is ten times more toxic than a reading of 7PH, so even though you have more Ammonia in your tank (.25 rather than <.25) its a different...

Ph Fluctuations, New Tank, Not Cycled, With Fish

How about your filter/media....is it still the same one from when you started the tank a month ago or did you have to start a new one when you got the 12 gallon? Also, the decor ~ have those been cleaned at all? Oh! and do you siphon change water? Katie

    Betta Old Age Signs

Hello all, I have a red 'rescue' Betta and in 3 more months I will have had him for 4 years. I noticed for the past 4 or 5 months that his fins and tail seem to be thining out in some areas, almost translucent. Is this just old age or should I be concerned? I don't think you would even...

    Ammonia Spike, Please Help

I to had a Ammonia spike, not sure why since my tank has been established for almost 5 years. Although my spike was only .25 from 0, I used Prime and it almost instantly fixed the problem. I wonder if that should be used in all water changes? Any opinions on that?
