Hello fello fish folks,

I am a little worried about my lovely Male Betta.

The story goes.....

I bought some silver tip tetra's to go my community tank on the BAD advice that they would be fine with a Betta! This was not the case. The silver tips had been nipping the betta and it lost a quarter of some of its fins, a little more on the 2 long ones underneath him at the front.

They seemed to be making good regrowth, they have white tips but on one of the tips that are regrowing there is another white fuzzy thing "stuck to his tail" i feel like i want to wipe it off (i wont).

My worry is that this is a little fungal infection or something worse?

Can anyone tell what this is from the bad pictures?

Many thanks for reading and any help would be fantastic!

Gary

Any time I'm not 100% sure I would treat anyway. I don't know about brands,- but if you go to your lfs I'm sure they will be able to advise you. I hope he's back to his normal self very soon. Best of luck :)

Thanks Nicki.

I'll pop down today and see what they say.

Should I rehouse him on his own? Will he not be lonely?

What size of new tank would be best for his maximum comfort?

My males have a minimum of 3Gal each, 1 lucky Male has 30Gal however he is a PK (Short finned) Male so doesn't get bothered by anyone.

Obviously the bigger you are to go the betta and the more chance of tankmates working :good:

I would try just doing more waterchanges for a week before using any meds. Fungus, among other things, is lways pressnt in the water and is opportunistic. It crops up when there is damage and fish are stressed or have lowered immune system. Clean clean water will likey sort it out in a day or two. Meth blue is great for fungus if dead set on medicating, but may discolor silicone in the tank or ornaments. There are also loads of fungus cure meds beside meth blue.
The regrowth looks great.
Cheers

Thanks loraxchick. I've just bought full testing kit and everything seems in really good order. Just upset he has the fungus. Do you think I should isolate him? I'm on the ready to buy another tank right now. Should I use half current water and half new water if i do get new tank?

Thanks

He does need to be on his own, and I'd suggest at least a 3g tank. Then do frequent water changes until the stuff clears up.

What kind of filter does your current tank use? Can you put in some extra filter media to use when you get your new tank and filter? It's not the water but the filter media that needs to be established.

ok i'll seek to get a new tank asap!

when you mean extra filter media what do you mean exactly? sorry for my ignorance!

Depending on the filter setup you have, there should be a bio-bag or ceramic rings or something that collects all the icky stuff from inside your aquarium.

I have the Juwel Lido 120 L tank. There is a big sponge thats in the filter - just bought it recently.

you mean add icky stuff or extra sponge?

What I would do in your situation is go out and get the new tank for the betta, then run the filter you get for it in your old tank for a few days. (Honestly, if it were me, I'd get the same kind of filter, then cut the sponge in half. Use half new sponge, half old sponge in each tank, then you're set to go. But there's probably someone here who will argue with that method.)

How did everything turn out? I just recently put my male betta in his own tank (had some thining fins) during his stay in the hospital tank I used betta revive to repair fin rot he had -if thats what it was - anyway his tip looked identical to yours and I had never seen anything like it before so I also worried about fungus but it healed perfectly and hes as healthy as a horse so im wondering if perhaps thats pretty normal. Took about three days.
