In my planted aquarium i use regular playground sand i bought at the hardware store and don't deal with algae on the sand even with my high watt light. Although, i wish i would have done a dirt/gravel substrate .

Ill check there. I was thinking the same thing about the neons. I might just give it a try. And my ram seems to be pretty scared of things so i think he shouldn't be a problem. I can always just give it a shot.

I have a coralife light and yes real plants, filled with plants, I have a co2 system. The tank is 6 months old and the algae has been around for like 3-4 months. Light are on for 7-8 hours a day.

My tank is 46 gallons. I have had this algae for like 4 months now. Its brown on some plants but not on all. Mainly my anubias and swords

I have some brown and green algae on my plants but not all of the plants. Will otos solve my algae dilemma? Or do i need to find a better solution. I know otos do best in schools of 5-6

Try turning the temp on the tank up yo 80-82. That makes the ick go away.

Get a red ludwiga. It will really bring out the colors in the tank. Also pick up some root tabs at your LFS, stick one of the tabs under the substrate of any new plant you get and they will thrive. :)

Did you add fish too fast? I know i added to many fish at one time and they stressed and died. Then go only 5 fish at a time and they stopped! :)

well acually neons go in schools of 3-4 and also bettas dont care what size at all they live in. i feed them frozen brine shrimp and some pellats

Don't get it from the beach, the salt from the ocean may kill your fish/plants. Although you can get driftwood from lakes and streams. I have a piece from an Ecuadorian river and a piece from a creek in the mountains. You can also get them for about $5-7 at your LFS. Just to be safe scrub and...

I have a snail problem and to get rid of them used assassian snails. This helped a lot. But now i have noticed i want them back due to the large amount of algae coming back on my plants. I removed all the assassin snails but do i need to worry about them laying egg sacks in the tank anywhere...

is a power head good for plants? Does it help them grow at all? If you dont know what it is it makes a current of water in the tank. like a natural river or lake
