My water here is pretty hard. I don't remember exactly what the rating is but I remember it being harder than I would like.

Water parameters all pretty much normal. 0 ammonia and nitrite, just a touch of nitrate. pH exactly 7. None of the other swords in the tank appear affected at all.

Whatever you do don't get 2 males together in the tank. In my experience male sparkling gouramis are rather territorial. Especially if one's already established. Unfortunately I haven't been able to find any females at all in my local area. :(

Yeah they do seem like what my LFS label as red honey gouramis.

He doesn't so much scoot as wiggle. Same swimming motion, probably just has to put more effort into it. But he can still display quick bursts of speed.
