    Disappearing Ambulia

About a year ago or so I bought some Ambulia and put it in my 75g tank. It was absolutely gorgeous. The next morning I only had one tiny sprig left. Seemed an awful lot for the tank inhabitants to have eaten in just one night, but I took that tiny sprig and moved it into another tank. It quickly...

    Amanda's Redoing The 38 Gallon

Long time no update. :) The 38 gallon tank is my favorite tank by far. The banana plant went nuts in there, so I pulled it and moved it to my son's 29 tall. The pennywort went nuts and I wound up moving it to my work tank. The ambulia sprig I saved from the 75 gallon has also gone nuts and it...

    The Work Tank

Will definitely keep you guys posted! Just got to work and over the weekend someone went playing in the sand before their bath and got the tub all full of sand. Naughty, naughty. LOL I've got the HC but I think I'll leave it in the pots for a few days before transferring it into the sand, just...

    The Work Tank

Brought in a bit of pennywort and a crypt, and, of course, the fish. :D The neons really seem to like the open area in front of the pipes. They pretty much stay there. The rasboras are just all over.

    Ghost Shrimp

I'm thinking I was sold a Macrobrachium and I think it has eaten an African dwarf frog, 5 neon tetras and several xray tetras. :( Not a happy camper. This is my shrimp. Just before this picture was taken he was lunging at some of my xrays.

    Amanda's Redoing The 38 Gallon

Banana plant was moved to the 75 gallon, where the inhabitants thought it was great fun to tear up, so it was relocated again into my son's 29g tank (expect a journal for it someday, right now it's plastic and gaudy figurines). There was stem just plain everywhere. Since the 29 is 18" tall...

    The Work Tank

I have filter media sitting in a filter here at home that will be transferred to the new tank Monday morning. I keep it in a filter somewhere at all times so I always have mobile bacteria. :) Will be adding more plants, too, so that will keep the NOs down as well. :) I really don't like the...

    The Work Tank

Got my fish picked out! Stocking will be: Pair of Golden Rams 8 Neon tetras 6 Harlequin rasboras Stocking level for the tank is 61% and filtration is 228%, so will have room to add more later if I decide to do so. The female ram appears to be about ready to spawn, so that may take care of the...

    The Work Tank

I'm not entirely sure about the stocking yet. Will have to see what Bob has this week and go from there. :) I would LOVE to find some blue wag platies. Bob is looking to see if he can find some. I think I want a school of Cardinal tetras to start, and then pick some suitable tankmates, but we'll...

    The Work Tank

So I upgraded my 5 year old's tank to a 29g during Petco's $1/gallon sale, and asked my dad/boss if I could bring one of my empty 10g tanks up here to set up. He agreed. I got to thinking that a 10g tank is only going to tick me off within a few weeks, if that long, and I'd be itching for...

    Buying Fish Online

Problem solved! I'm going by one of my LFS tomorrow to pick out fish, which will then be moved to a separate tank. Then the owner is going to meet me up there at 7am Monday to pick them up. They don't open till 10. How cool is that?

    Buying Fish Online

I got permission to set up a tank at work, and now have a barren 29 gallon tank sitting at the end of my desk. I've got some fun ideas on decorating the tank, but have not yet started planning its inhabitants. I'm thinking I'll be better off ordering fish online and having them delivered here...

    Angelfish Dying

Wanted to update and thank everyone for your time and comments. Still have not lost a fish outside the angels. It was obviously something that affects only angelfish. I guess that's good and bad. Good that I didn't lose a lot more fish, bad that who knows how long my tanks will be infected...

    Angelfish Dying

I'm in Mississippi, so a bit far from NY. I do appreciate the offer, though! I plan to go to the same store (local owned) that I got my first angels from in a few months to give the tank time to clear out whatever it was that caused it, unless I can find some info on how to clean it up faster...

    Angelfish Dying

9 Angelfish dead in 9 days. No other fishie fatalities. It has to be something that only affects angelfish, and it got ALL of mine. Time to update the siggie. :( I would imagine they do use the same supplier, Fish Fanny. I always look for dead fish in tanks when I buy, and looked again when I...

    Angelfish Dying

I do water changes on Saturday or Sunday, depending on what I've got going on for the weekend, nitrates stay pretty low, so sometimes I skip a week depending. Did one Saturday the 7th. Lost 2 angels on the 9th, one on the 10th, one on the 12th. Did a water change on the 14th and lost two on the...

    Angelfish Dying

    1. The 3 adults I'd had for months. The babies were all acquired in the last few weeks from two different sources, so whatever it is, no doubt they brought it with them and were not quarantined long enough. Pretty sure it was the Petsmart angels. I've NEVER lost a fish from my local Petsmart...

    Angelfish Dying

Using the same dechlorinator, same food. I've ordered Excel to start dosing my plants, but it's not here yet. The only thing changed is a bit of beard algae growing in the tank, which they seemed to relish. Just not enough to knock it out, hence the Excel order. Will read up on angelfish...

I've lost 7 angelfish in the last week. Had three adults and 6 babies spread over 2 tanks. Now I have one adult and 1 baby in the big one. I just find them dead when I get home. None of them look like they have anything wrong with them, and are swimming and eating fine the night before. My two...

    Peoples Ages Keeping Fish At

Nope! Not the only one! My then 3 year old son was at daddy's and caught a 12" goldfish in a pond. I got 3 hours notice I had to figure out how to keep the thing alive because daddy can't tell lil man no. All I could find on short notice was a 10g tank, so convinced my son to let "Nemo" go back...

    Peoples Ages Keeping Fish At

I'm almost 18 for the second time. :) OK, ok, I'm 36 in a few weeks. Also have a 5 year old who is an aspiring fish keeper (the 29g is his tank), and a 16 year old who would be if he thought it was cool. He has picked out fish and I may do a "cool fish" tank for his room eventually.

    Amanda's Redoing The 38 Gallon

Finally got some new pictures... The crypts aren't bulking up near as quickly in this tank as they did the 75, but they are growing. The Amazon swords are doing great considering they didn't do anything but melt in the 75. They are thriving now. :D The pennywort now stretches the entire length...

Please Show Me Your Planted Tanks

Pardon the horrible lighting, gonna fix that come February. It doesn't look so bad in person, but horrible for photographing... 38 gallon... 75 gallon, the difference a month makes... I started the 38 before the 75 was really finished and proceeded to ignore the 75, so it's still not...

    Amanda's Redoing The 38 Gallon

LOL It's ok! Love your tanks! To get the pennywort to stay put I took one of those lead wrappers and broke it into 4 smaller pieces that would go around the stem one good time and sunk them just below the surface of the sand. The left side has grown a LOT since I put it in and it looks like...
