I wouldn't keep jewels with any other fish, they are nasty and have been known to polish off an entire tank before. When they pair up and breed they will kill anything in site i'm afraid. Great colourful fish, but not for community tanks IMO

Congratulations :D I have kept mum with them for about 24 hrs, but keep an eye on her, if she starts to be a threat to her babies, remove her.

The Brichardi fry hatched yesterday and i have moved them out the main tank into a fry growing on tank. I fed them today for the first time. :)

Hey, i plan too yes, but at the moment BBS, though at the moment i don't have any and i got 19 Brichardi fry aswell as 17 Red zebra fry to feed so i am using Liquifry no 1 until i can get to an lfs that sell it. :D

Red Zebra's don't require plants they require rocks to make their own territories. They also require hard water, tank mates from a mbuna range and a bigger tank than 20g IMO

Completely agree with the above, angels and clowns are to small for a 20g.

Here's an idea, get your mum to buy you a bigger tank for the plec she bought you :D Oh and plecs are notorious poo monsters, even when the algae is all gone :o

Hi, BBS is fine to feed to the fry, as they get a little bigger try feeding them finely crushed algae flake.

I also think that when you buy a fish its for life, i have 21 plecs altogether and i can house them all comfortably (14 are babies at 1" in size). I have no intensions on buying a plec or any fish to get rid of when it gets to big :) its just another excuse to buy another tank :D

In my mbuna and fry tanks its 8.0, in my amazon set up it's 6.4 and in my community tanks its 7.2 :D

Cichlids are not suitable for cycling tanks with i'm afraid, they are just not hardy enough to cope, african cichlids are also a different kettle of fish too, they require a larger tank, do best in group with other african cichlids, require hardwater, with low nitrates. Doing a water change now...

I would say that if you are that interested in keeping mbuna, then get a bigger tank, there is no way you can comfortable keep mbuna (any) in a 10g tank. If you can't get a bigger tank, then you will have to get mbuna out of your head and maybe as suggested go with shellies. :)

Id agree not to use cement in your tanks, but it can be easily removed from your rocks, but boil it for several hours after to removeany last traces and also to clean it.

Could they be getting ready to breed, i know from my kribs that they show nasty behaviour when breeding, just a thought. Do you have plant pots and caves and stuff?
