Lights arrived today! Made a very budget lid until we can get a bit of perspex or glass to go on top! Waiting a while to change the substrate i dont trust the parameters not to jump around with all this new stuff! Getting there though! Not sure how well the methylene blue is working though

Very sad goldfish in urgent need of home, West Kent

I've started cycling a backup sponge filter today just in case! the filter it came with was a "just hit it till it starts again" type thing! Bought an air stone to put at the back as well - figured more air can't hurt! Lights are arriving tomorrow, just gone with some ok looking ones from...

Treatment has started though I've literally just now read that it could affect the filter media and should be done in a separate tank! does methylene blue affect water test results!? Still trying to sort out lighting and a lid combo - I'm lost! and we need a new filter - I'm not sure...

Help with sad goldfish tank upgrades!

We were thinking of a buddy for him, want to get him in a happier place first - would we need to get one a similar size? I'd like to rescue one so they can bond over their shared trauma! Am planning on switching substrate to a thin layer of black sand. Currently treating him with methylene...

Help with sad goldfish tank upgrades!

Hi all, A bit more context in this thread but its looking like we're going to have to get this fish kitted out a.s.a.p (unless I can find someone experienced to take him on very soon!) I've re-attached the photos below. The tank is 100l. The filter in this tank isn't great , spluttering a...

Very sad goldfish in urgent need of home, West Kent

You read my mind! I was just downstairs taking a photo of him and measuring up the tank as well in case he ends up being with us for longer so we can get him some lights and more air in the tank etc! Photos added to the post! I'm not keen on giving him to a fish shop, I'd rather keep him (and...

Very sad goldfish in urgent need of home, West Kent

It's been a long time since I've had fish and we're not planning on starting a tank for a few years. We were recently offered a tank by a friend but it comes with the saddest goldfish I have ever seen. We plan to do use the tank eventually but we're in no position to look after this poor fish...

    Betta Enjoys Being Touched

My betta is the same, though I very rarely do it. As long as your not rough on him and let him do the moving I imagine it should be ok? It might be worth getting some stress zyme for him to make sure his scales don't get damaged?

    Threaded Fins

Last night one of my guppies fins had turned sort of 'threadbare', each fin was pale and transparent and looked shreded right up to the body. (not any kind of fin rot I've seen.) This had happened only in the last 2 days. it doesn't look like any illness I know. He was lethargic and hanging...

    Odd Livebearers

Surely that wouldn't come from an orange mickey mouse platy? which were the only other type of live bearer in the tank at the time. They were previous fry that were born in the tank so theres no chance of fish shop dna.

    Odd Livebearers

its interesting that you've both said the mother was a platy because the mother was actually a guppy! It was in a fry trap and there were no platy's giving birth at the time. :S

    Odd Livebearers

A fair few months ago a friend of mines guppy had a batch of fry with 4/5 of the 60+ being very different. They were paler than the rest and didn't grow nearly as fast. In fact they were still 2 week old fry sized when the others were about an 3/4cm long. They also never developed any colour...

    Tetra Water Conditioner

I've found the cheap stuff from wilkinsons works a treat! I don't like the tetra stuff either - its too strong I think. Although mine don't seem to mind it. I wonder if your putting too much in?

    Planting Tank

As far as I can tell the only difference between goldfish and tropical is the heater! The gravel is the same (unless you go for an uber substrate enriched planted tank) but sand/gravel have always worked very well for me! All water tests are the same - freshwater The fish are of course...

Im Looking For Beautiful Red / Orange/ Yellow Plants For Aquariums?

I'd recommend neon plastic ones! :good: lol! I find that most colourful plants tend to die, the leaves all fall off! So they might need more care? (unless you already have that!) I cheated and changed the light in my tank to make the greens stand out more! :D

I bought from last trading post too! I put them in a week and a half ago and they've double in size!! I might have to start trimming!! Here they are in my tank: they've grown so much that you can't see my binliner background!! (student budget here!!)

    Plastic Plant Tank

I have no idea why your fish died - unless the plants you ordered were poisonous(!) but I'm no expert!! Buying plants online is by far the cheapest option, wood is also cheaper online but you don't know what your getting! Depending on the size it could cost £2 or £100! My bit of wood cost £4...
