    Wordy's Seahorse Tank

I have found an orange worm that I'm assuming is a bristl worm in the tank, there seems to be conflicting advice on whether they are harmful to fishes(seahorses in my case) though, but I'm guessing it's better out than in so could anyone advise on the best way of getting rid of it please?

    Wordy's Seahorse Tank

It'as been a couple of weeks since the last update so here goes I've checked the tank has cycled by dosing amonia up to 3ml and the tank processed it quickly, so afer confirming my results with an expirienced aquarist on another website I decided to stock the cuc and a firefish The fish and 2...

Apart from a couple of shrimp would 4 turbo snails be enough for a 94L tank? seems quite a small number to me.

    Wordy's Seahorse Tank

Good point, maight have to re jig it a little, last thing I was is the glass covered with muck. Could anyone answer my question about cuc a couple of posts up please?

    Wordy's Seahorse Tank

Here are pics of the tank I've scaped the rocks so they cover the inlets on the left hand side of the tank. The top right piece of rock looks like it used to have lots of polyps attached, shame they aren't still there.

    Wordy's Seahorse Tank

As a quick aside before I get the pics up I'd like to ask a queston about cuc. The guys at the LFs recommended 4 Tubro Snails and a couple of Blood Shrimp would be adequate for my tank (94l) Obviously he's got alot more expirience than I have but 4 snails and 2 shrimp doesn't seem like a great...

How Do I Put The Sand In

I just poured mine in :P Question from me now, I put quite a bit in and the sand has covered the bottom two pieces of live rock. will this be detrimental to the biological filtration? THh sand is live sand so will the filtration provided by that compensate for the covered two pieces of rock?

    Wordy's Seahorse Tank

It's the 1st time I've used the tank. I've had it over a year but had other things to sort out around the house before I could get it setup and give it the attention it will deserve. I've got pics of it as I've been setting it up and I'll get those posted later today.

    Wordy's Seahorse Tank

Fair enough, I'll leave the Gorogians out of the tank and buy more macro aglae. the last thing I want is for anything to get hurt.
  14. W

    Wordy's Seahorse Tank

Thanks guys :) YesI meant gorgonians, I've rang the guy at Simply Seahorses to make sure what I planned was going to be seahorse friendly and he said the Sea Whips were compatable with the Seahorses.

    Wordy's Seahorse Tank

Hi Everyone I'm finally taking the plunge and setting my 94L River/Reef tank up as a Seahorse tank. 10kgs of live rock, live sand, water and a sachet of Purigen are in the tank, and Ive got the test kits and refractometer. Phase 2 is going to be to get the whips, macro aglae, CuC and a Fire...

    Little Nemo Diary

We are! This is a great thread, can't wait for the next update. I'm hooked and I'm at work, so I can't even see the pictures :good: Just as an aside, what will you be doing with the fish that survive, I take it you won't have the space to keep them all, do you sell them on to a LFS? Thanks

    Fishless Cycle With Biorb 60l

I didn't do anything with the BiOrb, I scrapped it and got a traditional shaped tank. I got the idea form Jennybugs and if I wanted to ressurect the BiOrb I'd do that.

    Fishless Cycle With Biorb 60l

I've had expirience with Biorbs(had a 15 ltr one) and would like to offer a bit of advise if I may. Scrap all the filtration that comes with it, place a couple of none return valves on the plastic pipe that goes to the pump and get a normal filter for it and use a sand substrate. The problem I...

    Oscar Fish

If you are genuinely concerned about the fish then the best thing I think you can do is take it back, he is slowly poisoning himself in your tank due to the fish waste, uneaten food etc breaking down and producing amonia, and your filter not having the bacteria to remove it. Once the fish has...

    New Tank

Ok..... been thinking this morning and I've got an unused 15ltr biorb with a 15w halogen light sitting around doing nothing. how much modification would I need to convert this into a refugium and would it be feesable? There is a filter chamber in the back of the tank that I'll be filling with...

    Lighting Limitations

    South Pacific.

Anyone watch South Pacific on BBC2 last night? I love that program it's like paradise out there! They had a little two minute bit on Mandarinfish, they look cute as hell but when there's two males together they're nasty, one ended up biting and locking onto another ones throat!

    New Tank

well I ask on here about the purigen as the guy at the LFS said just stick the purigen sachet in every 6 months, and they are on sale for £5, as opposed to the skimmers they had for around £30 for a tank my size(94 ltr), surely they'd want the £30 sale?
  33. W

    New Tank

Alright chaps & chapettes, time for my next question: I'd gone back to the LFS where I bough my tank to exchange the stand(they'd given me the wrong one by mistake). I was asking about protein skimmers and was told that Seachem Purigen would do just as good - if not better job than a protein...

    New Tank

Some great responses so far guys, thanks alot :good: On to my next question now....Live rock. The place where I got the tank from not suprisingly sells the stuff, they've got what looks like a 12'x9'x'3 plastic pond in the shop with what must be a couple of tons of the stuff. The guy who...

    New Tank

So if using tapwater is out then what would store longer, RO water or saltwater? and how long(Depending on conditions of course). 1 week, 2? Also are there any RO units you can buy that don't need plumbing into your water supply?
  36. W

    New Tank

Ahh ok thanks for that, marine salt it is :) Regarding the possible algae problems, I'd only be adding about 10 litres every week, would that amount of tap/saltwater mix cause algae problems?

    New Tank

This thread is providing some great info so far, thanks all :good: Time for another question now. The lfs I got the tank and will be getting the live rock and fish/corals etc also sells saltwater quite cheaply and I was thinking of getting some to start off with, how long does it keep when...

    New Tank

Thanks, The more I'm reading the more I'm leaning away from getting Seahorses to start with(maybe a future project I think) I've been reading up about Dragonets, you can buy Copepod kits. Some more reading is in order I thnk. Ok so if I was to postpone the Seahorse tank, and went with Fishes...

They haven't sold me a tank containing fish, I've bought the tank and stand, nothing else, not even live rock. I bought the tank because they were having a sale so I saved myself some money. I've gotta decorate the room before I set the tank up. I'm using the time from now until I buy my 1st...
