My Angelfish Has Blood In Her Mouth

Hi Karin, okay, will treat the med you suggest. How long do you see results with this one? I just got home so dosed the tank and got on here. Will start tomorrow. Will this med affect the good bacteria in my tank? I'm so scared of chemicals due to a really bad experience with my tank looking...

My Angelfish Has Blood In Her Mouth

Also Colleen, May I ask you if you have come across any of these ailments in your Angels? The blood in the mouth, one gill not moving in and out and most recently (poor fish, I can't stop looking at her closely) in her mouth it looks like some sort of swollen membrane?

My Angelfish Has Blood In Her Mouth

Hi Karin, I have 2 LFS stores that I go to, ths is the one I use for readings and fish. The other I use for carbon/sponges plants. My Angelfish Has Blood In Her Mouth

Okay, just got back form the LFS. MY tank water readings as follows: Ammonia 0 Nitrites 0 Nitrates 0 Ph 7.0-7.2 They said it must be an ulcer from the rough lip locking. And that maybe her appetite is down due to how sore it is. Also with the gill prob, she said possibly she is stressed due to...

My Angelfish Has Blood In Her Mouth

Hi Athena, I know you are right about the behaviour to spawn. She has always been keen, but this last time she laid and they both were fanning, guarding as they do every fortnight, but I caught him bossing her about with them. He was bullying her and taking over. He wanted to look after them...

Hi, I need some help.. My Angelfish (female) looks bright and okay, although not herself behaviourally. She is trying to eat, but is very slow at doing so and although shows SOME interest to eat, by taking the flake, she seems to have trouble eating it. Her mouth looks like it has blood in...

Fish Lying On Side At Bottom

Hi Renier, I'm no expert and come here for advise myself, but looking at the pics, the water is cloudy and does look to have high ammonia. Have you got some 'live' plants in there? Plants help with waste and are good indicators of water condition as they look poorly before your fish do...

    Losing Battle Against Bacterial Bloom

Just to add to my post, I live in Australia and the ph in my area is pretty neutral. I have just done a complete 'gut' of the tank once more. Cleaned absolutely everything! Talk about cycling all over again. If anyone can offer some help I would really appreciate it. Oh and not new to having...

What Do You Do With Dead Fish?

The few that we have lost over the years have been buried. My daughter insists they be buried and she chooses a rock to sit on the top of the dirt so she knows where they are..

    New Air Pump

they might be excited you know. My fish loved it when I had one in the tank but I found it annoying as it popped up everytime I cleaned the gravel. Sounds like you have that sussed though. I don't think putting a cap on the end is a problem.

How Often Do You Do It?

Hi Pixies, how often are you feeding your fish? Google search results suggests stocking your tank with Siamese Algae Eater (Crossocheilus siamensis) , may be worth some research to see if one of these might be suitable and assist the algae issue. I only clean the filter once a month, sometimes...

    9 New Fish! :d

nice community of fish. You might want to check with the pet store or place of purchase whether the endler had just come in (the last couple of days) as they may have lost some overnight too and it is not of your doing. Also agree if you are able to quarantine, you may want to seperate the new ones.

    Harlequin's In Trouble..

no, I'm in Australia. Are those products available here, do you know? I would prefer to know what is best before I go to the pet store as I don't think the stuff he gave me for the white spot was the best possible. How many members are on this forum?? Only 2 kind people are willing/able to...

    Harlequin's In Trouble..

gosh, no, it doesn't look severe like that. The area is about a mm in width and like I said from top of back tail fin to the bottom. This is the only spot as it isn't anywhere else on the fish. If it is bacterial, how do they get it? Is it the water quality? I just treated the tank with...

    Harlequin's In Trouble..

I'll describe it as best I can, the area that has the scales missing is flat and smooth. No redness in the belly region. There is a tiny spot of blood on the area. The other fish has the white area right at the point where his body ends and tail fin begins. Like a straight line from top to...

Need Advice On A New Tank (( Haha Yes Another One))

I like it Shelagh, very nice indeed!! Not sure if I missed reading it, but what fish were you going to house in it? May I ask what plants those are? They look mighty fine compared to the amazons I got here which look to be needing another friendly bristlenose to clean them!

    Harlequin's In Trouble..

Just to update those that were so wonderful with help in erradicating the white spot... it worked!! :good: I treated the tank with antibiotics twice after this had cleared. I did a partial water change but did not clean the tank as such. Tonight I was feeding the fish and noticed 2 of the 5...

    Water Changes

yes, here too, the fish seem much happier after a small water change like that. A larger water change and they are a bit more reserved for a short while then swim around happily almost like they are saying thank you.

    Yet Another Problem......

thank you Minx for your kind words. I have alot of other things going on at the moment, so I'm feeling overwhelmed. This is the worst time for my fish to be unwell and I feel to blame as I introduced the new fish when I shouldn't have and if they didn't give it them, then I caused the...

    Yet Another Problem......

Hi Shelag, I have tried to post in the emergency area but windows seems to have a problem with it and won't let me. Hmm, What Kind Of Algae Eater/bottom Feeder?

I can offer you my opinion and promote the little guy that has worked his tail off in my tank as a number one choice. The bristlenose. He's only little but 'Jacques' as my daughter has named him is a remarkable asset and friendly to all. or.. the sterbai cory is a nice fish that works hard too...

I'm Gutted, And Need Help To Fix!

I'll either beat it or kill my fish trying. I regret putting new fish in there when all was okay. Stupid thing to do. I'll resist the water change and wait. So is it safe then to keep repeating the treatment every 3 days? Over and over with no water change? Won't that make the water toxic...

Thanks andy, you've been a great support :good: I have the heater set at 31 degrees but the digital temp shows 31.6 right now. Is it safe to turn it up another degree or more if the higher temp will increase the speed of removing them? I really want to do a water change as the glass is a...

    What A Silly Gravel Cleaner!

sounds like the one I have and by the replies most have. Miss Wiggles no-1 is how I do it and the best way I feel. You need to make sure no bubbles are in any part of the vaccuum. And as John said the bucket needs to be on the ground or below the tank for easy uninterupted flow. The tricky...

    Drift Wood

yes hot water is best for driftwood to remove the dirt/ grit and tanins that cause your tank water to turn yellow/orange. I soaked mine with regular changes and rubbed it down for 2 days prior to putting it in the tank. oh and you can use a toothbrush or something with bristles to speed things up

it's a slow climb.... it's at 29.9c right now. It goes up a couple of degrees and then back down. I'm such a tool!! I just removed water form the tank and there are heaps of bubbles. Noisy, but lots of oxygen coming through now. I don't know why I didn't think of if it sooner
